It doesn't matter, at least it shouldn't. Just live your life and communicate when it's convenient. We used to live without phones in our pockets and managed to get through multiple days with no contact.

if he asks, but its better to just say it when you message him because if you know that he will wonder then its quicker and easier to get it out of the way like that
