Platonic love is a genuine affection and caring bond you have with someone whom you DON'T want to fuck or live as a permanent companion to.

Romantic love is a genuine affection and caring bond you have with someone whom you DO want to fuck or live as a permanent companion to.

Not all romantic love leads to fucking, nor is fucking only something romantic lovers do.

However, a strong definer of "romantic" love is a dedication to that other person that is unique to them (or, for poly folks) or folks you romantically love.

Romantic love is the love that feels different than the platonic love you for friends and family. Romantic love is being in love and platonic is loving someone as a friend. You both love and be in love with a person as well. Which is ideal if it is your s/o. Aka your lover should be your best friend. Same idea
