What is the proper income for a man who wants to start a family?

How much many does a man need to start a family? Let's say that he wants two kids and take care of his wife? I'm looking for a realistic idea.

$40,000 if he has property and $70,000 if he does not own property

It depends on where you live. In the state I live I would say 80,000-100,000 dolllars/year. In some of the more human friendly states it can be less. By the time those kids are rrady for college you should be making twice that much.

Depends where you live and what economic class you want to live in. In my area I would say 2 kids and a partner you want to make at 80k a year to love comfortably

Well a mortgage payment these days is around $3,000 on the low side so 4 times that is $12,000 a month or $144,000 a year.

I agree with those figures. Houses are very expensive. What about the men that make say... 85,000 or 60,000? Or even just 100,000? Are those income not adequate?

Not that I disagree with your point. But I only know a handful of guys who make 150k plus a year. Most of them are your traditional high earning jobs: Doctors, Lawyers, Dentists, Engineer Managers, IT management, Pilot Captains, business owners, etc. There are lots of people with good jobs and benefits who don't net 144k a year.

If both of us work, we can manage with 35k each. We rent a little apartment and are okay with no fancy holidays.

I'd say 60k if both parties have income or living in a lower economic bracket

120k for middle class living (maybe 100k)

240k for upper level lifestyle
