Why is ex annoyed that I’m in a new relationship a year after we broke up when he jumped into one a couple of months after we broke up?

Maybe... but I meant "control" more in the sense of regardless of what he does, he wanted you to not be able to move on from him.

Well that’s irrational. Of course if you break up with someone they’re going to move on.
He posts so much about him and his new partner, I barely do but whenever I do he has to try and compete with it and do better. What’s that all about?

I'm not sure, honestly. People like feeling like they made the right decision in breakups and such. And they are often insecure, and they like feeling like they upgraded from their ex.

It could be that seeing you move on is making him wonder if he was actually the problem in the relationship. I have an ex like that; she was so dead set on the idea that I was awful, that seeing me do well after our breakup broke her brain.

He didn’t end it saying that though, it was more amicable and wanted me to know it wasn’t me etc. I know that’s usually a cliche but it could’ve been true in this case.

Yeah, I don't know man. Sometimes people say one thing with the best of intentions and they realize the situation is different than they thought it would be. Sometimes people flat-out lie. Sometimes people meant what they said and nothing about the situation changed; they just changed their mind.

I’m already moving on. Curiosity is simply a human emotion, and ironically working through feelings (aka acknowledging them) is how we really move on instead of just pretending to.
