It depends on the couple.

Some women want to be treated like spoiled princesses and be supported financially in exchange for looking good.

Some men act like martyrs for doing nothing more than going to work, and expect their wives to take care of the kids, cook, clean, pamper them when they get home, and basically act like employees and look good doing so while also providing sex on demand.
What's interesting is, men in those kinds of relationships think they are superior to women. They act like the heads of the household and want their wives to be completely dependent and submissive.

Other relationships - healthy relationships - are equal. Their income is considered mutual property. They make decisions together. They contribute equally to their mutual happiness and planning for the future. Neither acts like the other's boss. They respect each other's intellect, common sense, skills, and contributions. They trust each other. And they are sexually compatible.
