Men do you prefer a woman with a bit of ambition? From the way I hear men in my life talk about women I’d think the answer is yes?

Define ambition first... Generally it's used to describe people that are money hungry, seek power, or are attention whores that want fame. From my perspective being greedy, power hungry/bossy, and/or an attention whore is undesirable. It could be interpreted as someone that is goal oriented... Having some direction in your life and goals you set is a good thing. That said if you think you need to have a five year plan or something like that and rigidly stick to it, then that's undesirable.

Having a career is great, but you have to balance it with the rest of your life. A job is meant to pay for the things you really want to achieve in life not to be your life. You don’t want to work all the time just rack up a number on a bank statement or to buy a bunch of frivolous crap. If you’re just there for the money, you’re doing life all wrong. Your life will waste away and at the end of the run you’ll wonder were it all went and none of your dreams will have been accomplished. You have to have other passions you are working on constantly. For each person that is something different, but people with common goals will likely be drawn to one another.

Speaking from experience, dating a woman who basically has no long term goals and "just takes life one day at a time" is both boring and draining. We get a great deal of satisfaction in our relationships from helping our women achieve their goals and otherwise feel needed, so if they don't have any, it greatly devalues the relationship's potential.

Ambition means drive to accomplish things. To some men, iteans just that. To other men, it specifically and pretty much only means having a career.

Maybe to be a good wife, a good mom, for us to grow together, have a future.

If you mean a job, to server her boss better, to make more money, work longer hours... I couldn't care less.

But doesn’t a woman who earns more money benefit you too?

That is not why I fall in love and marry a woman.
Here being ambitious to make more money isn't really anything I care about. It might make me less interested if career is her number one priority in life, if she is working more hours, wanting to take positions requiring travel, stressed all the time. That stuff would have me breaking up and looking for someone else.

When I was looking for a life partner I did not want somebody who would be happy hanging out in bars all the time or satisfied with a crappy retail job. I wanted somebody who would challenge me to be better and wants to have an amazing life.

So what does that person look like to you, what is her career, hobbies, living environment, family values etc?

She is pretty and athletic. She has aspirations and wants to build a life and has a long term commitment.

By nice life I’m guessing you mean expensive things too, meaning she should earn a good wage to help towards that.

I would say yes, too because a woman with a little ambition seems like a person with a backbone she knows what she wants and I prefer that because I know where I´m at with her.

Ambition is knowing who you are and actively taking steps to improve yourself and using your talents in pursuit of your passions. Can be seen by someone who starts an entry level job and works overtime to become a manager in a year. Specifically ambition is knowing someone wants to learn how to cook so they take a cooking class and watch yt vids just trying to get better. Ambition is ruffling feathers of a group because you see them as complacent and want to move forward.

Goals are both long term and short term.

Short term goals specifically could be wanting to clean the house or go and join a surfing club. They are tangible activities that can be done in a few weeks to compete projects.

Longer term goals are set for a year or more and often involve breaking down parts with milestones and repeatable tasks. Could be seeking a college degree or buying a house or starting a family. Specifically long term goals often align with someone’s morality and priorities in life
