It will never be able to fully replace those emotional needs, unless AI reaches a point where it can not only mimic empathy, but experience empathy.

But for that love and connection to be truly real, for an AI being to truly care, they would need the free will to choose not to care as well.

You would need a fully sentient AI being with free will that chooses to love and care about you.

Because nothing will truly be able to replace genuine love and connection — at least not to the fullest.

Shallow relationships? Sure. You can have an AI eventually mimic emotion and seduce you like an unfeeling but charismatic psychopath that knows just what to say.

You’ll just have to try to forget that it’s all pretend and they actually don’t care about you. If you can forget, you may be able to enjoy that company.

Of course it will for people that are not meant to have a relationships in any way shape or form. Either friendships or actual sexual relationships.

There are many people in this world that are not designed to associate with other people beyond basics. Individuals that live off of their computers with minimal interaction outside of gaming and forums as example. Individuals who are shallow petty have nasty attitudes or inferiority complexes as another example. In general people who suffer from antisocial disorders and there are plenty of them and AI works perfectly because these people are as said incapable of interacting with other people properly.

For anyone outside of this antisocial bracket AI will never replace actual people. AI is nothing more than a computer that is designed to simplify and make life easier. To people that are enjoy actual interactions with other people AI is freaking dumb and boring

It can be nice to supplement or fill a role you don't want a friend to fill, but it's no substitute.
