Gifts imply transference of property. He may have paid for them, but once ownership was transferred to you, they were no longer his property.

No way should you return any gifts a guy gave you during your relationship with him, and any guy who would even think about asking for a gift back, when you're no longer dating him is a real jerk, in my opinion. I often give gifts and gift cards, etc to women who are dating another guy, simply because I enjoy spoiling women.
