According to an article on CNBC roughly 46% or nearly half of adults over 18 are single. What happened? Is it the internet? The economy? A changing generational trend?

1 yI would say a lot of people get into relationships and then break up because they are not happy and many do not try again, either due to lost second chances or bitterness over the previous relationship. I think less than 3% of people have never been in a relationship, the others dated and broke up. If you want to know why break ups are so high, it's due to the sexual openness of modern western society, it leads men to fear marriage because they think it's not a guaranteed long term match and it leads to women not finding men that want to commit, because they have too much history with guys in the past they are no longer priority options for the new men in their lives. Another reason for single hood is that the cost of food and shelter has risen and people spend their youth trying to build their education and income and by the time they want to settle down, it's too late to have kids so they no longer see a point in forming a pair. Also I think women have so many indulgences and sources of entertainment now then they did years ago that having kids no longer seems like the highest joy in life, and some do not want to crumple their freedom in a marriage.

1 yNobody talks face to face anymore. I've lived with someone for 20 years, and the only time I ever talk to him is via text from the other room. When our former housemate comes over for CAH night, he can't put the phone down without checking it every second.

Anonymous(45 Plus)1 yMen have always met women got to know them, courted them, and married them so they could f*** them. But somewhere along the line the man falls in love with her.
Now today the women are the new men. Most don't want to marry him she just want to live out a short term fantasy whenever the mood strikes her. So she picks a guy, gets f*** on, has a fling. Some women turn it into a a re-occuring f*** buddy. But then end result is, when she gets bored she get kicks him out of her bed, ends it an moves on.
Men have ALWAYS lived by the rules women set forth. Guys used to have to earn sex with a woman. Now she hands it out like jellybeans. A man knows he doesn't NEED to earn her anymore. And so this affects all women because there is still a small percentage of women who still want a committed relationship, most don't. So looking at it from a guys point of view why would he work to earn sex from this woman when that other one is just giving it away?
So, that's why relationships are a thing of the past largely. Most people just want to live easy fiction then work for a fulfilling reality.

945 opinions shared on Relationships topic. Many more women have bad morals now and the government rewards them for it and punishes people financially for being a happily married couple raising a good family. The media promotes cheating and promiscuity, along with greed and women are more easily influenced by it.
More men are on drugs and are alcoholics so they make bad decisions. More men are realizing that marriage is bad and for generations women have used the courts to steal from and abuse men. They are realizing that many women commit paternity fraud and other women still support their bad behavior.
People may not like it, but the truth is that the majority of the relationship AND societal problems, at least in the USA are because of women. 68% of women vote democrat so they are responsible for the current policies that are greatly harming our society.

7.2K opinions shared on Relationships topic. A lot of people are in bad situations and are really undateable, so they resort to hookups or flings when they can get them. Lots of single parents, who can't easily date or get into solid long-term relationships. Lots of people can't deal with adversity in a relationship and don't have the communication skills.
And, yeah, bad communication and unrealistic expectations set by social media also plays a huge role.

1 yA mixture of a lot of things. A good bit of it is social media and dating apps. When everyone is using dating apps then most of them are having negative experiences because the whole deaign of dating apps is flawed. It's built to be incredibly superficial and detached.
People used to have to go places and meet people face to face, one on one to get a better read on others. Before dating apps and social media there was no loneliness epidemic at all. So if people would get off the internet more and get back to being social in real life it would get better. Now people just disappear onto the internet and don't have to face the real world. The virtual world is better to them. When in reality it's hurting them.10 Reply1.1K opinions shared on Relationships topic. I would have to say a lot of it is because of the internet - social media.
When I get on GaG there are a lot of people upset because "He hasn't texted me back and he usually texts back right away. What does this mean"? Couples that break up and now they are spying on each other's accounts and he see's her with another guy on Facebook having fun.
Too many things can go wrong when we use our cellphone's in a way that can hurt people. And this happens all the time.20 Reply- 879 opinions shared on Relationships topic.

1 yWife response: that isn't happening in the rest of the world where women are feminine. Our men are the same as men from the United States so I can only guess that it is likely something the women are doing. And based on what my husband has showed me from some of the female users I'd guess it is definitely the women. Probably not all of them but enough that it makes men not want to date

1 yA plethora of things really.. Men are not encouraged to approach anymore, or be men.. Too much access to porn stopping men from having the incentive to approach.. Women's standards are getting crazier little by little.. And just an all around gender division happening right under our noses..

1 yMore people are going on disability income, and they feel like they won't meet anyone who wants to date a disabled person. There are people working 2–3 jobs , have no time to date or meet someone. Many people are afraid to date because they fear of rejection.
00 ReplyFor me I've tried dating but every guy wants something casual and if it's long term they want stuff like 3sums. And if I think this one is finally okay he yells at me about my no sex rule until we made it a year ago I've just given up atp.

m 1 yalways important to remember... that a lot of these studies are usually polls for just 200 to 1000 people...
and these probably were people that are doing polls for CNBC instead of dating... lol13 Reply- 1 y
@NathanDavis there is also dictionary missing. What does "single" mean? In none relationship? In not defined relationship? Not in committed relationship? Or long term? Does friends with benefits count?

@IslaTheWitch preferably... a leading question that would probably lead to the biased, expected result, lol

50 Reply3.8K opinions shared on Relationships topic. Men are refusing to get married, have children, or even approach women or have relationships or have sex. Child support, Divorce rate, Alimony, Metoo, False accusations, legal risks, cheating, loss of children, property, and homes is just part of why.
