Seems like a question I've already answered multiple times already in the past, but anyways, for me to move on from a relationship, it all depends on factors like how long it lasted, how close we were, and how it all ended.
Like speaking from past experiences, I dated this girl for five whole years only to find out she was faking it the whole time and said she never loved me and still wanted to go back to her toxic and abusive ex. When asked why, she simply replied with "I didn't ask for any of this, or for you to love me. How is you getting hurt my fault?"
It took me three whole years to recover from that level of heartbreak and betrayal, and to actually be able to look at the opposite gender as normal people with actual feelings and a heart, and not just someone who's simply out there to screw you over, take whatever they can have and dispose you off like some used piece of toilet paper. Hope that answered your question.14 Reply- +1 y
How'd you get over the toxicity of knowing women can move on like that and mislead you and BS themselves and others? I have an ex where it was toxic and she traumatically broke up with me
- +1 y
@hardboiledink I think the moment I fully moved on from her was when I fully completed my transformation into the man I've become now. It was a harsh wake up call for me for sure, but I realized that just because you love someone, doesn't mean they're owed to love you back.
Even after all you did for them. Because people can be cruel, selfish and heartless like that, and that's life. Which is why it's important to be selective with the ones you want to love, and who deserves your love and who doesn't. There are plenty of good people out there who'll accept your love and return it tenfold. All you have to do is wait for when they come, IF they come - +1 y
Yeah I gotta be careful also with how fast and who I give my love to. They might say they love you to but their actions often don't match what they say.
And same, I did so much for them but that's my fault for not having boundaries and not overextending my efforts for them like taking them on vacations, planning my life and schedule around them etc.
Yes, definitely I have to be more selective also with women and really screen and make sure they are who they say they are and actually have morals - +1 y
@hardboiledink exactly my man. Above all else, always have boundaries and never, under any circumstances let anyone have the liberty of walking over you or taking you and whatever you do for them for granted, and if you see the signs that they are, just walk away and don't acknowledge their actions. You don't deserve the drama and they clearly don't care either way because if they did, they wouldn't have done this to you in the first place

My last relationship I got over the day after it ended.
14 Reply- +1 y
This was a few years ago but here's how I remember what happened: the day after I was told we were no longer together I was driving to visit a friend. I got a text from my now-ex girlfriend saying something about "I hope you're careful". My response was "why are you texting me this?" "Because I still care about you." I didn't respond but I remember thinking briefly "if you really cared you wouldn't have left me," and went back to driving.
I thought about it for all of maybe 2 mins before just accepting she was dead to me. Maybe I was too harsh in thinking that, but that was my choice. You don't want me anymore, you are gone from my life. Goodbye.
That is what I remember anyway. - +1 y
To be fair our relationship was pretty bad. We had been together for maybe a year and for about half of that time all we did was fight, there wasn't a single day that went by without her getting mad at something.
I don't place all the blame on her, I messed up a lot too, but she was just a very negative, unhealthy person. It was for the better.
+1 ySo many things depend yo.
Things like:
1) your self-esteem/self-worth matters.
2) How much you LOVED/CARED about the person who is now not in your life anymore.
3) How much you VALUED the relationship to begin with (being in it. How much you depended on it for your happiness, how much you NEEDED it, etc.)
4) And yes, of course, the length too!
5) Any CHILDREN involved as well... so many factors!
6) WHY you guys broke up matters too!
03 Reply- +1 y
7) How many other OPTIONS you have as well in order to move on..

Thanks for MHO.

I also think that it matters who broke up with who. Because if you break up with someone, most of the times you get over them quicker. Because you already made the decision to break up and had the time to gather yourself before the actual break up. The person that's being broken up with will need more time to recover, because for them it happen out of nowhere and catch them off guard.

Took me about a month to get up and get out there on a dating spree... I was determined not to let my ex stop me from finding the future husband.

@anastasia_pug078 Because of Long Distance. China was locked for far too long and he couldn’t leave I couldn’t go there.

00 ReplyI've just gotten into my first relationship ever at 19 years old, so I can't really answer this. But I've been liking this guy for years. Everytime I was crushing on someone else, I couldn't take it to the next step, because I kept thinking about my current boyfriend. I think it will take me a really long time to get over him if we were to break up. We just hit our 3 months together of officially being in a relationship :) I hope we never break up, because he's the best person ever and he treats me like a queen. I love him.

+1 yI think I went like six years between declared “girlfriends.” I might’ve gone close to a year though before I hooked up with anyone after my first serious relationship, because I spent like six months of it living out the lease on my apartment with my ex (GREAT times😂), so neither of us were really able to move on. Then it was summertime in a college town, so it was real dry for options, and then I think I was spending most of that summer and fall getting my feet under me, in the gym a lot trying to getting back into playing shape. I think it was that next winter when I got back out there.

+1 yAny relationships that I had a very deep connection with the person I never fully move on from. As for any heartbreak I do not experience it anymore for the most part.
To summarize it:
- I miss and care for them still. That connection doesn't go away despite not being interested in them anymore. I still think about them casually, as they were very important to me at one point.
- The toxicity of relationships makes me not want to date for a while after it ends. It leaves me exhausted.01 Reply- +1 y
It’s been 19 years since she left me. I will always love her and feel that a part of me is missing.
+1 ylike 6 months to years. I think it's how much we process things mentally and realize how we can be better and how we messed up, how bad and messed up the other person was, and that the relationships was toxic and not good for the long run especially since it WAS NOT real love.
STOP calling it "love" when it isn't should be the taught thing. People are getting into lust and situationships that aren't even relationships where people talk, care, and more to the point if they broke up it would be a friendly breakup.
Now people just ghost eachother left and right and that is TRAUMATIC and it IS NOT LOVE to do that to people. People today are not good people, cruel, and don't know what "love" is

+1 yWhat do u mean by move on? physically or mentally?
For myself,, I may come across as a sociopath how I answer this.. but here goes... immediately. 1. Mentally: a relationship doesn't end sporadically. 2. Sexual activity with s/o also just didn't stop just like that. Hense.. I value my time and desires while I'm above ground. If I wasn't the one for her, why should I feel the need according to social norms to be in a bubble of loss and grief? I instead reflect, I chose to value and be grateful for the time I've had with now my (ex) . And move forward.. no rearview mirror

Anonymous(45 Plus)+1 yI think for me it depends on the relationship and how long it lasted. Generally, I've been "over" the women I dated fairly quickly, usually because of some issues on their end - like cheating - I'm immediately gone. Now getting over what they did, I don't know if that sticks around a bit longer - but them personally? But all my relationships have been pretty short; usually they can't (or don't want to) last past "the honeymoon stage" (first three or four months).
I think the sadness over the end of a few CRUSHES (not breakups - most of my crushes and I didn't date) have lasted longer than the feelings associated with a breakup.00 Reply
Anonymous(45 Plus)+1 yI was married for 18 years. After 1 year of marriage; l began having doubts about why she married me. It obviously wasn’t for a partnership or to build something as a team. I tried working with her to build that for the next 17.
So l just started looking out for myself. I was outnumbered and knew l was in her way. She was hellbent on not sacrificing anywhere near as much as l had been.
For me and while married; l got over being in love with her by that 2nd year. Then after being married to her for 12 years, l completely gave up trying. After 18 years, the opportunity presented itself to divorce her made it easy for both of us to go our separate ways and l filed for divorce.
Two years after the divorce, she tried to befriend me thinking all was forgiven and forgotten. Talk about her being a real narcissist.00 Reply
+1 yI think it depends, my eldest daughters father it took me like 6 months to a year we were on and off for like a year. my last ex was only a month because I moved on emotionally before i did physically mind you I was with him 8 years, my current partner I've been with for 3 years but I think it'll take me a long ass time if we broke up, because feelings are really different then what it was with my exes.

+1 yLike you said, it depends on how long you've been together and also how they treated you in that relationship. I dated a guy for 5 years but it was the hardest most horrible 5 years ever and when i left him finally, I left him knowing I had no regrets or love left for him whereas my current relationship is a year now and if that ended I wouldn't get over it near as easy because he is a wonderful person in and out.
00 Reply3.6K opinions shared on Relationships topic. It's really based on how strong my feelings were at the time of the end of the relationship. That's going to be influenced by how long we were together, but also how the relationship was going at that time. If we'd been together for a long time and our feelings had only grown and things were going well, then getting over it would be harder and would take longer. If things were bad in the relationship, then moving on would be easier.
00 Reply614 opinions shared on Relationships topic. Not easily, and not quickly, if the relationship was a good one. When my wife left me for another past lover, I was devastated for a long time, and my stupid cousin told me to 'throw away that wedding picture and all of that stuff" I could not bear to do that, and ignored her idiot advice. Years later I still have that wedding picture displayed on one of my 'end tables' for anyone to say. The wedding day was the happiest of my life, and not to be forgotten during this life time

@strateguy632 A few years later, I had my college SO move here, and she stayed for several years
+1 yIt depends if you are the one who broke up and for what reasons. I for my part move on rather quickly. Maybe 3-4 months even if the relationship was 4 or 9 nine years. This sounds harsh but the thing is that I start to distance myself about half a year before I break it off.

+1 yI wouldn't bother. Invested too much time, money and energy. I would just stay single and rich and enjoy the rest of my life in solitude or with some friends. I am sure they would be happy since I could finance basically everything we would want to do
10 Reply1.4K opinions shared on Relationships topic. it depends, a few times I took mulit year breaks from dating just to go out and do what I wanted to do without having to ask or be told I have a cousin's wedding we are going to.
It was nice to be able to come and go as I pleased.
I could get laid without any problem, so I didn't need to be in a relationship just to have sex.

+1 yA woman and I were getting extremely serious, and just recently (last week) she suddenly stopped talking to me and started to ghost me.
As someone who can become emotionally detached really quick, I'm already moving on, but I'm really angry because I passed on potential dating opportunities for a woman I liked, only for her to disappear on me.
So I'm no longer wanting to date, let alone deal with women, until further notice.
In other words, I can move on fast.00 Reply

20 Reply A year or a year and a half I always love very strong that it does hit me quite hard am a sensitive person when it comes to love and heartbreak no joke it's one of my worse faults is falling in love to quick
00 Reply574 opinions shared on Relationships topic. There’s no guarantee, every person and relationships is different… the break up and pain will also be different… we all grieve on our own pace and what it was meant for us. I think the hardest for me was my last one though.
00 ReplyI don’t like dwelling in the past. Loosing my energy on things for situation behind me, so I move on fast. 1 to 3 months max, but fast enough, as in doing my own things not getting myself in another situation right away.
00 ReplyFor me it's been what.. a year? Year n a half I don't know.. and I'm not interested at all in moving on to someone else. I'm still focusing on me and bettering myself. But my relationship was 14 years long, so..

+1 yHow do you gauge "moving on"? Successfully getting to go steady with someone new? Being able to become interested in someone new? No longer beating yourself up over what you lost?
10 ReplyThe one that beat me down was the 2o years of marriage... I can't honestly say how long it will take because it's been 3 years and I'm still at a lose. I guess for her it took about a week and she was already talking with her ex and falling in love and I'm still in disbelief that she never actually loved me but the truth hurts
00 ReplyCovered are allowing enough time for the initial grieving process not being too hard on oneself and acknowledging moving on takes time, engaging in meaningful activities as a form of self care and healing and waiting until you feel emotionally ready before trying to start something new. This emphasizes the importance of patience and self compassion when recovering from a breakup.
