Brainwashing involves manipulating someone's beliefs or opinions through psychological methods, often to control their thoughts or actions.

Indirect influence on decisions happens regularly in various forms, from subtle marketing tactics to societal norms shaping our choices.

How do you approach it?
Are you always aware of it? Do you critically assess the information, and consider different perspectives to maintain autonomy over how it may affects your decisions?; in the face of potential indirect influences through make-up stories etc?

I've never been brainwashed in my entire life. People often confuse brainwashing with manipulation. Brainwashing is essentially thought reform; it's what the big dogs, such as the government, are doing to people. Meanwhile, manipulation is a lot more subtle. It influences your actions and decision-making, but it doesn't exactly screw up your whole personality and the way of looking at life. So, I highly doubt anyone here has actually been brainwashed by another individual, because you would have most likely noticed it by now.

If we're talking about how to approach brainwashing, fight psychology with psychology. Approach information with an objective and analytical mindset. Consider evidence, context, and various perspectives before forming conclusions. Develop and apply critical thinking skills; question everything. And most importantly, have knowledge. If you don't know the psychological techniques used by manipulators, then you can't identify them in the first place, and especially fight them. Manipulating is easy nowadays because people are already being brainwashed without realizing it. And like I said before, brainwashing is on a higher level of influence and intensity than manipulation.

Of course, I oversimplify the complexity of psychological influence, because there's much more to it, but that's common knowledge.

Manipulation isn't very hard to do, people just shouldn't do it cause it does brainwash People, all 6 senses can participate in influencing you.

@altheavas  brainwashing is mostly done by cults and some politics and even some religions, most of them are just to make profits. some brainwashing is also done by partners as well.

A lot of brainwashing starts as manipulation. That is, you have someone approach you with an objective. They talk to you, and get to know a bit about you. As you converse, they continue asking you more questions about your life, what you do, your family. You feel safe and comfortable because this person really wants to know you. Them, giving you attention you may be lacking at home, creates an artificial bond. Through this conversation, they bring up an opportunity to improve your life. You light up and they have now hooked you.

Once they have you, they begin to guide you into a world that you normally would not participate. They reinforce that what you see as wrong is o. k. to do, it will make you money, and your family will be happy. They talk about how nice you look, how well you performed, and then they start slipping you a few mild drugs to help you relax.

They assign you a trainer, who then starts programming you, getting you use to doing all sorts of crazy things. They show you all the requirements to do the new job; they also begin to get you hooked on specific drugs to help you forget about your past. You are given a new name, and a new personality. Over time you do not know who you used to be. All you know is what you have been told by your handler and your trainer.

This last part is the brainwashing. It is done through punishment and reward scenarios, often complimented with specific drug use to enhance the effects of the training. Once a person is completely converted to their new persona; it is very hard to bring them back to the person they actually are. That person may still be locked somewhere in the back of their mind wanting to come back out, but the drugs make it easy to keep them locked away and carry on with no real thought or regard.

Manipulation and brainwashing are different, but one can lead towards the other. Indirect influence we see every day in all our media. When we stay away from the Television, the cell phone, tablet, smart devices, and computer for an extended period (a week to a month), we find that our brains flip, and start to recognize the influencing that is constantly thrown our way. We then start dissecting it and how it works, and the effect it had on us in the past is reduced greatly.

Reading books teaches your mind to think, and keeps your creative side in great shape. Watching Television, YouTube videos, and other social media teaches your brain to not think and take in everything no filters, no imagination. Your critical thinking is greatly reduced. So, now when someone says you need the latest and greatest, you will get it. When they say you need to follow and trust one person, and hate another; you will do just that without evening thinking on what evidence they have, and is it real or fake.
