Even hanging out with or talking to people I like doesn’t give me anything. I haven’t always been this way but around the age of 22 I‘ve become less and less interested in other people and everyone thinks I must have had a rough childhood or that I’m mentally ill. What do you think?
You seem to be in a situation similar to mine, especially during my high school years when I followed a similar mindset.
This situation can be viewed in different ways, either as good news or bad news. If you currently have no desire to socialize and feel no need to engage with others, consider focusing solely on personal self-improvement.
If you choose not to socialize and neglect both others and yourself, you may find yourself regretting it later in life, with few real connections and limited positive memories. However, if you dedicate yourself to self-improvement with this mindset, concentrating solely on personal growth without distractions, you may achieve more than most people who prioritize socializing. It requires significant effort, but the rewards can be substantial if you persist.
Reflecting on my own high school experience, where I chose solitude and disinterest in socializing or relationships, I focused on self-improvement, fitness, mindset, and financial well-being. Now, I only have a few connections, but I don't regret my choices, because it all worked out. However, had I ignored both myself and others, I might have ended up in a similar position as everyone else, but with additional downsides, such as lacking connections, friends, or partners, which could be challenging.
Ultimately, it's your choice whether to continue along this path or attempt to change your mindset to reintegrate socializing. There are different paths to consider.
If you think you may be facing mental health challenges, seeking professional help is advisable for assurance. However, based on your description, it seems more like a rare mindset that some people adopt.
