Why is liking someone often seen as something 'embarrassing'?

Why is it like that, especially if the other person doesn't have the same feelings?

Because everyone has developed feelings at least once in their life for some. We all know how illogical feelings are. And that if you don't keep a type reign on them they can get away from you. Other people also know these feelings leave you vulnerable which means the can manipulate and take advantage of your vulnerability if they wish. Since so few success comes from exploring these feelings it's usually just best to either close yourself off to them or as I said keep a very tight reign on them. But then what type of life is it if it's devoid of them?

you're right. It isn't and shouldn't be embarrassing to like someone. It's perfectly natural. Nature does not have a prerequisite that in order for one animal to find another one attractive, the other must be attracted to them in return. It just don't be like that. :D
