Love or commitment?

For me it's commitment. Your commitment shows you love them and want to make it work. Commitment is something you do because you love them. It's a way to support your partner. You are COMMITED to making it work, to being with them through good and bad, etc. It's not always easy to commit to someone, especially if you can be free and selfish, etc. Also how can you say you love someone but not be committed to them? Our TIME and our ENGERY and AFFECTION is one of our most valuable resources and you should only give that to people you care about.

True love IS commitment. It’s when you want the best for someone no matter what. It’s not just a “feeling”.

The ultimate test is if you could let the person go because you know their future would be better without you. That’s the ultimate test when you want something that is best for someone. That’s when you truly know you love someone.

Hopefully it doesn’t have to come to that but true love isn’t about possession and/or how someone else makes you feel.

Bold of you to assume you know what would make your partner happy though. If she is happy being with you, why would you want to TAKE THAT AWAY? ! Of course it's not about possesion. Committment is never about that. Committment means being there for someone in good and but especially the bad times. THAT'S what committment means. How can you say you love someone when you'd take off at the first few signs of trouble? It's HARD to commit, especially if things get hard. This applies not only to romantic/domestic relationships but to other things in life as well. How many people QUIT when things get hard. I am telling you a lot will because there are some men (especially maybe white men from my personal experience) that will LEAVE once a relationship gets harder than they can handle, or is too much for them, or they get bored, etc. It's too tempting to escape the stress and want to be free and just take care of nobody but yourself. They'd have to REALLY love the person and are ready to make such a commitment in the first place, in order for things to work.

1. The one woman I truly loved broke up with me. But I accepted it because I knew it was best for her. I was devastated about it but I knew it was for the best.

2. Why the hell did you make a racist comment about “especially maybe white men”? Statistically there is another race that has notoriously high single motherhood rates and it’s not white people by the way. But again this question had absolutely NOTHING to with race. It says a lot about you that you brought up. Really.

3. Don’t have higher standards for the person you date then you have for yourself. I can’t tell you how many women I’ve encountered over the years who are looking for “saviors” out of men. I sure as hell am not looking for a woman to “save me”. Hell no. I’m 100% independent and self made. I’ve made major financial mistakes too. But I pulled myself out of that mess.

We live in the modern world. Pregnancy is HIGHLY optional for western women. Yet we still got women thinking they can have the best of both worlds: “freedom” and “financial security”.

Commitment keeps couples together, but commitment without love is depressing. It keeps not only deeply unhappy people together, but also people who just aren't passionate about each other.

Conversely, love without commitment will never be a healthy relationship. But I'd rather be in an unstable but loving relationship, than be in a relationship with someone who will never leave me, but doesn't necessarily truly love me.

Of course, what I'd actually want is a relationship with both love and commitment, that's what everyone wants. Commitment is absolutely what makes a relationship work, but I think love is what keeps it happy.

I personally think that commitment is love, since I see love as a commitment or duty... The strongest part of knowing you love somebody is when you do something for them instead of your emotions or how you feel.. I believe commitment and love go hand and hand.. At least in regards to people..

In my opinion, love and commitment are not independent but inter-dependent. They co-exist. Absence of one would imply removal of other as well.
If you're committed to someone, that's because you love them. You are dedicated to make everything work coz you actually love the person.
You cannot just commit to a relationship if there's no love.

Exactly. It means you didn't really love them as much as you thought. Being committed is hard but if you loved somoene, like really loved them, then you'd want to be with them through the good and the bad and see them happy. Love is a verb. It's not always feelings.

Yes, unfortunately yes to both. I've been gaslighted (made to think I was the crazy one) by an ex. Been lied to. Been verbally, emotionally as well as physically abused and/or assaulted by past boyfriends as well. I really don't think it's a gender thing.
