Yes it does for the most part , sadly selfishness is one of the biggest relationship killers. If you both canât remove selfishness for each other , your relationship will more than likely end. Everyone of us has selfishness inside of ourselves , Most people get into relationships , because they like the thought of being in a relationship with someone , but when push comes to shove, they only really think about themselves , and what is best for themselves. Sadly when things donât go their way in that relationship , they automatically assume their partner is not who they thought they were , and start pointing fingers at their partner , instead of pointing fingers at themselves first. Most people have a hard time admitting they are wrong , itâs always someone elseâs fault , never their own fault. People should not get into relationships with anyone until they truly know inside themselves that they want to be by this personâs side for the long haul , not for the short haul , We are all imperfect people that come from different paths in life , we arenât always going to agree with each other , everyone has their differences on what they believe and what they donât believe in. If you canât accept your partnerâs flaws , donât expect them to accept yours , it has to go both ways or that relationship will more than likely fail , you shouldnât live your life always thinking you are right and your partner is always wrong , you should choose your partner the same way you want them to choose you , Sadly a lot of people have a hard time doing this for each other and they wonder why they keep failing in relationships, itâs because they donât see any wrong in themselves , itâs always someone elseâs fault. When you allow yourself to choose selfishness over choosing your partner , your relationship will end. Your partner needs to be your top priority over everyone else in this world , the same way they should make you theirs , it wonât always be perfect , but when you learn to choose your partner, it makes it easier for your partner to choose you , remove selfishness and resist temptationâs and I guarantee you will have a way better chance of experiencing true love. Love only grows when you choose it to grow with someone , wear your partnersâ shoes the same way you want them wearing yoursâ Set boundaries together and both follow those same boundaries together , not the other way around , what you donât want your partner doing to you , needs to be the same rules for you as well. If your partner decides not to follow those boundaries, then walk away because they only care about themselves
It absolutely does. When you're a kid and grow up watching Disney movies that portray true love, you tend to desire that for yourself. Then you get into actual relationships and realize reality is nothing like that and there are so many aspects in relationships that aren't shown in Disney movies.
Watching shows and other movies both dark and with happy endings also affects your views.
Talking with peers and hearing about their experiences and stories also affects your perception of love.
Women nowadays seem to be hell bent on self love, not needing a man, and advocates for feminism. And they get all the attention they want online if they're even just semi-attractive, so they don't really seek attention from men in real life. They get enough of it from posting stories on Instagram and social media.
And men nowadays are not pursuing women as much because women seem to be extremely materialistic, have their expectations up in the clouds, tend to sleep around a lot more than they're comfortable with, and leave on a whim taking half of all assets. There seems to be no benefit to being married for a man.
I wasn't using it as an excuse to complain. It's just the way society is at the moment. I've spoken honestly and wholeheartedly.
I'm not implying that every woman is like this. I've been in relationships with girls that don't care about money in the slightest, but they are definitely more uncommon, if not rare. The majority of women in western society are as I described above and that is because of all the experiences they have had in life which directly addresses your question.
It was not an attack on women and I wasn't implying all men are good either. Many men also have flaws. You're free to disagree with my opinion, but brushing it off and saying "It shows your lack of experience to think only women are this way!" is definitely an immature way to handle the opinion.
My experiences changed the way I understand and see many things. But love wasn't part of those changes.
First, my siblings, then my partners, and my own kids... love kept me going and motivated me to make bigger efforts and reach for more. And it didn't change.
Life is all about change... and how we deal with it. Even very happy committed relationships change over time... that's why relationships require work... and why some eventually dissolve.
I think change is guaranteed and need to grow together in same direcitons. As get older our purpose changes to having meaning. hopefully have meaning all through life is better, but as get established... kids, etc... what point is there left after all that? So yes, we grow and we learn and change. Values should remain fairly stable.
It does, definitely. Hopefully we grow in how we look at it.
And, preferably, find someone we can share mutual appreciation AND life goals with (though the life goals part is much tougher, as those change more than our outlook on relationships and not many people really consider them to begin with).
Of course! Our life experiences, emotional maturity, and experiences in our relationships can change our perspective on love. Positive or negative experiences in our lives can affect our belief in love following successes or failures in our past relationships. These experiences allow us to see different aspects of love, shape our sense of trust, and determine what we want. Therefore, the experiences that life offers us can deeply affect our view of love.
