Does being in a relationship change you positively?

It has a positive influence on me, in a way that, it makes me more of a responsible person.

I love myself and almost always do and say - what I want, but in a relationship- when I am in love and I put another person’s interests at the same level as mine, I try to get myself in his shoes and generally act like a better person - I think.

Better able to control my impulses and feel the responsibility.

Safe to say, I am much better of a person to the society - when I am in a relationship.

Even the worst ones always had a positive effect in pointing out potential flaws in my behavior and communication styles as well as expanding my interests (I always assimilated at least some of the interests of my exes).

There was one that almost broke me completely and hit a psychological rock bottom, and it's from hitting rock bottom that I developed my worst binge drinking tendencies. Yet I still managed to quit drinking last year, finally, and I can't blame that relationship for my binge drinking. I still chose that, and I still figure that it's good to hit rock bottom and lose our minds completely at least once in a lifetime to make us more grateful for what we have.

Just on the general topic of being in a relationship, it always brought out a more responsible side to me. I also tend to take care of myself much better when I have to take care of other people.

Depends on how the relationship goes. I know I am responsible for my own happiness but I don’t change the way I am just because I am with someone. Ofc I will do my best to compromise with my partner and give them mutual love and respect but at the end of the day, what I bring to the table is my own doing. So a relationship doesn’t necessarily change me positively. It’s just the way and who I am. Being in a relationship can make or break you too.

It can with the right person. if you believe in attachment styles, being with someone with a secure attachment style can for sure improve your life even if it doesn't work out.

On the flip side being with someone toxic or narcissistic can drain you and leave you jaded. it really depends.
