How do you personally contribute to the romance of a long-term committed relationship?

What are some romantic things you do for your partner to help keep the romance alive?

Making the effort to be interested in what is important to them. Even if its not my thing i'll make the effort to ask about a hobby that makes them light up talking about. He taught me how to play a video game I didn't care much for but could see how happy it made him. Also randomly hearing them talk about some drink or food or book or anything really they would love to try and surprising them with it showing you are actively listening to them and want them to be happy. We were watching a show and chatting about it and he spent 5 minutes talking about wanting to try this one thing from it so I noted it and tracked some down and surprised him with it. Dates out the house and attending things your partner would love to go to with you. I think compromise and caring goes far and some surprises to keep it fun.

We call each other on the phone almost every day, even if it’s just to check up on each other. We mail each other love letters (it’s a LDR) and sometimes we even surprise each other with flowers.

I buy my boyfriend gifts on special occasions like for his birthday I got him a watch and for our upcoming anniversary I'm getting him something really special. I've also paid for one of our dates.

You have paid for one date in what amount of time? Do you do anything romantic for him when the calendar isn't telling you to?

We're long distance so the dates have not been many. We've only been on 2 dates and he paid for the most recent one for Valentine's day. I paid for the first one. It's hard to do a lot of romantic things when we're long distance.

How is that you contributing to the romance of the relationship? Do you take turns paying for dates/asking and planning? If not, I do not see how you participating in a date is you contributing to the romantic aspects of the relationship.
