AITA for refusing to go on a weekend trip because we got info fight?

The big plan was to go to our (me and my boyfriend) Hometown for a weekend. Our schedules don’t match so it happens very rarely. The trip is 3hours drive. bags were packed and everything was ready and we decided to take my car. And I wanted to drive. For context- I’m a good driver, no accidents or anything ever. We were already in a road (like 20 mins from home) when to his mind - I almost crashed our car. To my mind - we weren’t even close. He started to yell at me while I was driving. My legs started to shake and I went into somewhat panic mode. So I turned the car around and got back home. Offered him the keys and he could go alone, I was so mad that I didn’t even want to see him and practically begged to go without me. He stayed. I ruined this weekend for everyone since everybody was waiting for us. Am I the asshole?

Your feelings were valid, your actions were not. I believe all of us in relationships can attest to miscommunications with our partners, or having things about one another that we don’t understand.
What happened in the car was a sign that you and your boyfriend do not understand each other when it comes to your driving. What you two should’ve done was diffuse the situation. You’d already went back home, you could’ve taken a moment to calm yourself and explain what happened, why you felt how you felt and set the tone going forward. Choosing to blow off the trip entirely was immature, but it’s over and done with now. It’s best to move on, and if something like this ever happens again you will know to handle it in a healthier way.

I think you both overreacted. Although I understand your frustration in the moment I would still make the effort to make it to our final destination as there was people waiting for us.

That’s hard to say if you completely overreacted. For one your perception of what happened would more than likely be different than mine. What exactly happened that’s why he said that? Was there a situation that could have potentially ended up in an accident. I don’t go no where w anymore unless I’m driving myself. Because for me I know that if I got into an accident I know that I did everything in my power to avoid it. Part of me thinks you did overreact some by not going at all, that you actually drove all the way back home rather than just stopping wherever you two were to collect yourselves.
