Some people love the independence and freedom that comes with their partner staying distanced from their family, and other people find joy and value in close relationships with their in-laws. So, how close should your partner be with your family?

Personally, me and Raine like each other to keep some distance from most family members, so I'd say we fall under the "Keep Them Separate!" category.

My SO and I would need to have enough in common as a stand-alone pair to be considered worth introducing to my family to begin with. He would then need to connect really well with my core family (about 5-7 people), my adopted family (about 5-7 people), who are constants in my life. I’d expect to be held by the same standards as well… taking things one day at a time to see what works.

I think it just depends on the couple. In our case, we are both very close to our own families so of course we want our spouse to be close to them as well. But I could definitely see how people who are not close to their family/h have a crazy family would like to distance themselves.

My mom tries to sabotage all of my relationships out of bitterness and jealousy. My grandma is surprisingly supportive although she sabotaged all of my moms relationships. My sister is not happy that I have a boyfriend whenever she doesn't so she's similar to my mom. My dad and grandpa only seem to have an issue when I date outside of my race. My friends try to get in my ear and freak me out about stuff so that I’ll be single again to do single things with them. Anyways, none of them are gonna stop me from whoever I’m witht in the moment, so I personally don’t care for anyone I date to meet them more than once.

When you are in a relationship you have to get used to meeting your partners family and them yours. There is no rule about how much that is, often simple geography dictates things more than anything else, one of the partners families may be 100’s miles away or in a different country.

i have always taken my girlfriends to me my family, my sister is still friends with 2 of my ex girlfriends.
I would never dictate stuff like that to a partner, they can mingle or become friends.

Zero issues with it and it’s definitely not dating your family.

My family has an understanding. Love my family, and if I love her, I could care less if they hangout. My family is honest with me, not always the case with some women. Whether a wife or girlfriend plays a part here, but a family member will let me know if they get too close. Meeting my family is a good way to weed out the women faking the funk. If my cousin or brother, or sister for that matter, dad even (has happened) can break her willpower or show me who she is as a person, its later to her and we laugh about it. Rare after meeting my family we'll be friends if she wants to cheat. Still love my family, no matter which way the tide turns.
