Both. Some people ARE NOT marriage material. “Forever” makes them glitch in ways you can’t imagine and they start feeling trapped, blah blah blah. But they can be awesome at “relationships” which for some reason feel less high stakes or pressured.


Personally, whatever makes the couple work BETTER is best for that couple. There’s not one formula that works for everyone.

I was pro-relationship from age 16 when I got into my first one. I preferred infatuated, monogamous, long-term relationships. Much more than friends with benefits. I liked having best friend, hanging out, going places and doing things together and, of course, sex.

But I wasn't interested in kids and wasn't ready to get married. I needed to see more of the world, have fun and experience life.

By my early 30s, I was more established and had experienced life. I started to think about settling down.

I had a couple more long term relationships that didn't work out. Then I met my future wife when I was 40. She was 37. We got married two years later.

We've been happily married now for almost 28 years, had LOTS of fun, and built a wonderful life together. We are best friends, trusted partners and lovers.

I am happy to have someone to spend the rest of my life with. I would be lonely and miserable without her.
