Honestly, I think they are. No one wants anything serious anymore, just hookups. Everyone has been hurt so bad that trust issues are stopping people from looking for something long term. Or, if people are in a relationship, it’s either short term or they put a strain on their relationship by assuming their partner cheated.

No, I think it's because the Internet has taught us to not pursue in person relationships. We spend so much time on our phones that we forgot how to have a conversation in person.

Concerning the hookup culture, women are the gatekeepers of sex, in the last couple decades women seem to have grown accustomed to not forcing a guy into relationship before giving it up and if a guy thinks he can get it from someone else without the "hassle" or "work" he will take that route. Thinking that's what he wants.

Sadly we as a society have become lonely for all these reasons.

I find my experience is the opposite.

I think as we grow older, there's a good chance if you put in the work to build solid relationships. Whether those are loyal friendships or loyal romantic partners, both apply.

I found in my late 20s to early 30s, my friend group underwent major changes - that was hard to do, but the chosen family I've gathered around me now was worth every hardship.

Oddly all my partners (I'm poly) and I have experience with cheating - some cheated on, others the remorseful cheater - and these traumas and the common way all of us dealt with it led us all to a healthier and more trustworthy relationship style.

I find it easier now to read who is going to be trustworthy and who isn't, and I quickly drop folks who don't contribute positively to my life.

Well whatever... I should probably write out a macro and store it somewhere so I can copypaste it every time I have to explain that being exposed to millions of strangers on a daily basis seriously distorts peoples' ability to invest in relationships. They believe they've got millions of potential partner options and thus don't try even 1/10th as hard with any of them as they would have a few decades ago. I think, fundamentally. the problem is that so many people have genuine dealbreakers that make them undateable. And since it's relatively easy to get a hookup, some people opt for that instead of trying to meet people for a relationship.

While trust issues may be a symptom I don’t think they are the root cause. Technology and the illusion of options and distractions / temptations are really challenging humans on a daily basis and connecting strongly with loved ones as an action are less valued. There are obv other issues but trad relationships grow less strong overall.


For example if you only can have chocolate or vanilla icecream you will pick one over the other and while it may get boring you stick to it. Now introduce 99 other flavors and you get tempted to try new ones when chocolate isn’t as tasty as it was in the beginning.

It's been my experience that most women prefer an enjoyable fiction to a less than perfect truth. I think that's why most prefer "f*** buddies" today. Then she can create whatever illusion she wants from that. All she has to do is believe it for the time that it lasts. Because most women today are not capable of permanent commitment anyways.

Yes trust is paramount to me. I don't have trust issues. I just know most women are not capable of real commitment. So I enjoy what she's willing to give Till she flakes, then I cut her loose.

Plenty of people want serious relationships, but they aren't mentally equipped to be in one and / or they don't offer enough to be desirable. And much mutual distrust to go around.

I assert that more people would have partners if women would ask out men more instead of putting the onus on dudes 90% of the time.

More men have conservative morals and more women have liberal morals. Those things are completely incompatible with each other. That is the main reason.

I don't know. The one thing I've noticed is relationships have become more transactional instead of built on communication and compromise. There's an awful lot of "what's in it for me?" attitudes in today's relationships.

I think that's a contributing factor but hookup culture, "free sex", dating apps, dating for clout, and social media all simultaneously makes it very difficult to build trust
