I would, but it totally depends on the individual and the stage of recovery they are in. If they have JUST quit and they’re still struggling, it’s best to avoid drinking around them even if they promise it’s okay. Get it out of the house, don’t come home with it on your breath, and find Alanon meetings in your area so you can be better informed as to how best to support your mate. A surprising number of people actually realize they might also have a problem with alcohol when they realize quitting for a relative, partner or close friend becomes more challenging than they expected. Good luck!

Probably wouldn't be a bad idea. That being said, a lot of people find that their relationships are strained during the recovery process because of how much the absence of drugs or alcohol changes people's personalities.

It would be a good idea for you to consult Alc Anon resources for spouses and partners. There is a lot of value in being able to go through stuff like that alongside other people.

I have limited what I drink since neither of my partners do anymore. I still do occasionally have one when I go out but I generally check with them if it's ok for me to have one that night.

I’d say no, but don’t drink around them and don’t go home drunk/smelling like alcohol

  • Navigating the waters of love while supporting a partner in recovery? Ah, it's like performing the most delicate dance of care and respect! It's not just about the booze; it's all about showing solidarity and creating a nurturing environment for love to blossom. 😘 So, should you stop drinking? While it's not a one-size-fits-all scenario, dialing down on drinks or taking a break altogether can be a grand gesture of love. It screams, "I've got your back, darling!" louder than words ever could. Imagine turning your home into a safe haven, free of temptations and filled with understanding. It might just strengthen the bond, bringing you closer in ways you hadn't imagined. But hey, communication is key! Have a heart-to-heart. After all, it's your relationship's unique melody that determines the rhythm of your actions. 💖

Personally I would stop using alcohol if my partner was in recovery, I do not consume alcohol to any great extent in any case, the odd drink at Christmas/New Year.

You should consider doing so. The Temptation is there. Neither my parents nor I were big drinkers before tetolling. Because of that, it's easy for us to avoid drinking thr alcohol that my sister brings when she visits.

Probably. Being supportive is important, even if they don’t insist. Not that I’m a big drinker, but I think I’d rather give up junk food, even meat, than booze.
