Guys of GAG, What would you do if your Ex wife, who cheated on you, needed your bone marrow to live, or worse, her affair partner needed it?

Its a hypothetical, but apparently its something that happened in my home town. A man was on the donor registry, and found out, though it was supposed to be anonymous, that his marrow was going to his ex wife's lesbian lover. He removed him self from the donor registry as a result.

I am not sure what i would do in that situation. I may be angry in that situation. But i could also hold it over them that i saved their life. On that same token, its supposed to be anonymous so i could simply refuse and let them die. Im not entirely sure i could let someone die for revenge though.

After discussing with my wife, we both feel like he did the right thing, letting the cheater die.

What he did is wrong. When you agree to be a donor, you do that to help someone else live. Your opinion of that person should not be important. That's why things are done anonymously.

What he did is condemning that person to death... that's manslaughter.

Legally it's not, no one can force you to donate.

The donor registry should never have made the slip. He would never have known. The fact that he found out could be karma or it could just be chance. Either way the option of playing god is handed to a mortal. That is heavy stuff. Personal. Depends how badly you are hurt. Emotions can make you crazy. Guilt is for life.

on a side note, In the story, the affair partner, the woman that stole his wife away, ended up dying two months later. His daughters and his current wife blame him for it, so he divorced his current wife too, and is living it up as a bachelor in a different state.
