Hey y’all, I’m asking this question to see what others would do and to avoid being a toxic girlfriend. To start, my boyfriend has a lot of female friends that he’s liked in the past but I never ask him to cut them off because I know male/female friendships exist. Although now I’m getting really close to asking him to decrease his communication with one specific person. 1st reason: He dated her last year. Totally fine! But there’s more to it. 2nd reason: He engages in her conversations and reaches out to her after I’ve expressed discomfort with him messaging an ex. Then gets angry with me if I want to see what they’re talking about. I never force it, I just say “oh hey what are you guys chatting about”. He ends up showing me but I always feel guilty afterward. 3rd reason: He mentioned recently that of all the people he’s gone out with, he regrets not going on more dates with her and he would date her again if me and him weren’t in a relationship. That’s what got me bothered. Nothing blatantly bad but enough to make me worried. I’ve been taking the nonchalant path and trying to not say anything but it’s eating at me. He’s told me he’s uncomfortable with me talking to my exes so I blocked them all immediately. I don't know if I should expect the same. So what would you do in this situation and how can I bring it up in a way that allows for healthy boundaries and communication.
- Also I’m not just looking for advice about this specific situation. I really want to know in general if it’s okay to tell your partner to cut someone off. And what kinds of people should be cut off. I plan on marrying this guy so I need all the help I can get.
