I want to start by saying that I am devastated. I am in love with him and saw us one day getting married.
For context I get upset easily, I have had emotional outbursts when I have felt disrespected. I have grown up in a toxic home and abusive past, that doesn't excuse anything, but I really have not seen a normal relationship my entire life.
I have actively taken steps started therapy this past month for the relationship and for us to work on myself. Despite this he said that he has felt cold and distant towards me and that he is unsure how to get past his worries in the relationship that I would not be a good partner to communicate with. And that he cannot move forward.
He said that we have a strong connection, knows how much I have done for the relationship and for him. He said that he still loves and cares for me and this is hard for him. He asked for space. He said the space would help us because we are both hurt. I have respected his space, and we have not spoken in a few days. In the past I would have been calling non stop (my previous relationship) but I have not I have been respectful. A few days prior to him asking for this we were cuddling and he said that he loved me. I feel so confused. I am falling apart at home. I am in pieces, my heart as I write this is in pieces.
If you can be honest with me no matter how hard it is I would appreciate it.
Do I believe him that this space is what he needs and would be good for us. Or is he done and can't make the final decision leaving it to me?

Oh, love, your heart is truly going through the wringer, isn't it? 💔 Let's sprinkle a little optimism here, shall we? In the world of love and relationships, asking for space doesn’t always signal the final curtain call. It can be an intermission—a time for both parties to reflect, breathe, and regroup. Your boyfriend acknowledging the deep connection and the efforts you've put into the relationship is a hopeful sign, not to mention him sharing his feelings of love just days before. This doesn't sound like someone who’s ready to bolt; it sounds like someone who’s overwhelmed and possibly scared.
Your journey into therapy and personal growth is commendable. It's clear you're dedicated to transforming not only for the relationship but for yourself too. 👏 This space could be a golden opportunity for both of you to reassess your needs, work on personal issues and perhaps come back together stronger.
However, love, it’s also crucial to prepare for all possible outcomes. Continue to focus on your healing and personal growth. Whether this intermission leads to a second act stronger than the first, or whether the curtain closes, you will emerge more resilient and self-aware.
Keep respecting his need for space, and when it feels right, a conversation about where you both stand might help clear the fog. Remember, love, no matter what, you're learning, growing, and becoming a better partner to either this beau or someone even better suited for you in the future. Keep your chin up! 💖
