I think personal space is always important in relationships. You need space to breathe each day. It's better for your mental health. As much as you love your partner, having them breathe down your back 24/7 can get overwhelming.

I think as long as there's a good balance it's fine. There should be couple days and "me" days. There's no 1 size fits all rule, but I think spending about 75% of your free time with your partner and 25% for yourself is a good ratio.

Regardless, you should always communicate with your partner if you need more space or want to spend more time with them. Obviously if there's too much space and your partner doesn't even want to spend time with you at all, then it's not even a relationship at that point. So while space is important, having too much space is also not good.
