Does everyone cheat (or enable cheating) nowadays?

Hi Guys and Gals,

As summer draws to a close I have to say that I've been floored by the number of excuses for cheating on their boyfriend/girlfriend/spouse/so and enabling cheating (as a hookup/side piece/etc.).

Cheating hurts so many people... Why are so many people willing to just consider it a norm now?

in my opinion there's no justification for it... no ethical reason to be the person with whom the cheater goes galavanting... and so on.

I'd appreciate your thoughts... Though please keep the language clean.

It's sad that it's much more normalized nowadays because of the ACCESS people have to each other. Not everyone has a strong moral compass.

Nowadays, you can be on the toilet taking the biggest dump of your life while simultaneously swiping on dating apps or trying to slide into people's dms on social media. Social media has created this world of distraction. It's much harder to focus on what's right in front of you, when you always see shiny things in your peripherals.

With everything being sexualized, women dressing more provocatively than any recent time in history, OnlyFans girls everywhere... yeah it's pretty bad out there. I'm not just blaming women for the record. It's the men's fault that indulge and promote that stuff as well.

I'm pretty sure the stats on cheating are definitely less than they are in reality too as I'm sure many people would not be willing to disclose that information to the public. And the stats are pretty high as is.

I think that a lot of people don't have any relationship skills nowadays. They'd rather quit any time or just cheat because they don't care about the relationship or how it might hurt their partner than to work on the relationship.

I definitely don't believe everyone cheats. But I know a good portion of them definitely do and a good portion of the ones that don't, probably think about it. It truly is sad.

I honestly wish there were more consequences for cheating... especially in marriage. I know not everyone is a decent human being, but we can at least take more measures to deter behaviour that might emotionally wreck good people.

Yeah not everyone cheats. I see this on GAG ALL THE TIME!!! People never want honest answers they want people to tell them what they want to hear as a means of validating what they did so they can feel better about it.

Not everyone cheats. Normal people when they feel unhappy in a relationship break it off. Many times excuses aren’t even the real reason they did it. It’s because they wanted to. It’s because they needed to get their rocks off.

Cheaters also take up for other cheaters the same way pedophiles cover for pedophiles (not that cheaters are pedos) because they want someone to have their back as well if something happens. Don’t get me wrong bad people stab one another in the back. But they cover for each other as a means of insurance.

Cheating is very destructive mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and even physically. But there are people who have no self control, they either at best just ignorant to how bad of a thing they’re doing, to indifferent, to enjoying the pain they cause someone else.

There isn’t any justification for it. Even if you’re in a abusive relationship. Why cheat? Be the bigger person. Leave. It doesn’t make it right. If you’re unhappy leave. If the other person isn’t fulfilling your wants/ needs. Communicate it.

People love making excuses and justifications. Nobody is perfect. But I respect someone a lot more whose honest and takes accountability.

I can't cheat. It's such a low thing to do. I look down on people who cheat. It's against my morals and if you're not happy in a relationship, you just break up. That's all you have to do. Why do something so scummy to the other person. And if that person isn't good to you and you cheat, you just lower yourself to his level. Don't do it.

Sadly some people do cheat, but not all. All my close friends are in happy marriages/long-term relationships, so things like that is a positive inspiration to look forward to :)

People make posts about being cheated on because they want some attention and sympathy. I understand wanting some attention as I was twice the victim of cheating in the past.

People who are in good, monogamous relationships don't make posts describing how great their partner is and how much the appreciate the loyalty. I've been in a relationship with Helen since December, 2020; I don't think I've ever posted anything about how much I trust her and how faithful she is.

So, all you will hear on G@G is stories about cheating and that might lead you to overestimating the incidence of cheating. I don't know how common it is. In 53 years of dating, relationships, and marriage, I am aware of being cheated on twice. And I have never cheated on any partner, not once in 53 years.

So, all I can say is that is happens, how often I don't know, but not everyone does it.

It shouldn’t be the norm or excused. No not everyone cheats but there are a lot of emotionally damaged people in multiple divorces by the time they reach 45.

and then they try again and now we have every kind of app and access into someone’s DMs. And it is sooo easy now.

the degradation and disrespect of the institution of marriage and downplay of the VITAL structure of nuclear family isn’t free. There is a heavy cost 💲 to it and our society is paying it. Whether they connect to the dots to that or not. Whether they accept that or it. They are still paying the price for it.. even if they don’t agree with that. I do believe in respecting peoples right to believe as they choose. Most certainly.

I cheated on my girlfriend once. It was a long time ago and I regretted it immediately. i would never do it again.

I guess there are people that do it and i suppose it has been going on for centuries., I think that people do it without really thinking about the consequences.

I met somebody what I was in the hospital when I was 19. He was a guy that was maybe 30. He had a really pretty and sweet wife. She used to visit him often. She was always very nice to me when she would come. One day this guy tells me that his girlfriend was coming to visit him. i figured that if his wife was so nice that his girlfriend must be amazing. The girlfriend shows up and she was really not very pretty and she had a very bad disposition. I was a kid so I was really confused about this.

Yes cheating is wrong it is very hurtful. But modern society is accepting things that it would never consider years ago. Like people bringing their dogs in a grocery store. Years ago that was unheard of and was not allowed I don't ever remember seeing it. Now it's like every time I go to the grocery store there's a mutt lover with emotional support animal sniffing and licking products on the shelf 🤮 society is just going downhill and destroying itself. Here locally a 53 year old man shot and killed a 25-year-old woman in the drive through at Taco Bell he didn't even know her then he turned the gun on himself another story I seen a 24-year-old black man who was a father gave his baby gasoline to drink trying to kill it. I think most people would say, they don't cheat because they don't want to hurt the other person.

I wholly agree with that, but the main reason I don't cheat is because I would let myself down and I can't do that. It means something to me to be and adult, have some class and not lower my own standards.

Cheating appears to be more widespread today because there are so many humans around, and we have social media, which expands our social circle, the number of accounts we have access to of individuals who have been cheated on, and the stories of the cheaters themselves. However, it is in no way 'unavoidable'.

Monogamy is highly stress induce belief when its has been displayed into society as what is normal when that society consists of a species that is not monogamous.

So cheaters were simply acting on there inherited biological instincts at the very basics, this is why people sometimes can't tell you exactly why they did it.

Monogamy has been pushed by religion and made penalizable by the government in certain situtions.

Is it not a wild thought to expect people to devout their body to entirely one person? Especially when its against the urge that our DNA has created the feeling for us to do so?

Not everyone cheats, if the relationship fulfils them they do not need to seek satisfaction elsewhere.

Those who cheat or are tempted to cheat are because they do not have a satisfying relationship.

I have never cheated because I have had very good relationships, my partners have never denied me anything and I have done the same with them.

I think it is highly abhorrent and very nasty. It is most often assumed there will be fidelity rather than discussed perhaps but not that many would say get what you can outside honey. We all know when we are in a monogamous relationship.

It s a highly personal betrayal and all the more nasty for it. I have noticed women tend to think it is a funny thing to do and laugh about it.

Why are so many people willing to just consider it a norm now? I think a big part of it is that people have given up. You get hurt, you give up on others, and you say "screw it" and then go do something stupid that hurts you and those around you. It's a vicious cycle, and unfortunately many people today are coping with it by trying to normalize it and almost expect it.

No, cheating is a choice. People who cheat weren't ready for a commitment but thought that they were. If you're in a good relationship and you're happy, there is no reason to cheat. Beauty is everywhere. I met a lot of beautiful women, good women. But my partner is a 9 on my personal rating as far as preferences goes and she has the personality that matches with mine and the qualities of a team player. How could some random beautiful woman on the street ever compete against that? I'm happy.

Depends what you class as cheating. If I wasn't satisfying my fella, then sure go elsewhere as long as your protected. If your doing it for money, go ahead. As long as your still loyal to your partner and tell them everything. Then it ain't cheating. As soon as you start hiding stuff that's when it's cheating

Social media has made it easier and misery loves company. People with crushed dreams and whom have broken/lost families simply want to drag others down. So now we have the tools to make it easier and all the encouragement in our friend circle, in entertainment, and the social media itself.

You know, in a lot of ways it seems like we live in a day and age where people's hormones control their behavior. I mean look at the widespread emphasis of wearing your sexual identity on your sleeve. This is preached in every campus and popular culture that your sexual identity defines you. Something that you'd think would be the most irrelevant is something they lead with. So I guess it's a natural byproduct of living in an era fixated on their urges.
