Let's face it, it's not particularly because of a single gender. Whether men or women, cheating is so much prevalent now.
I believe it's more of an ungrateful attitude that causes people to look at what they're missing than what they actually have.
And also coz of the rising sexual
dissatisfaction. We look for more and greed never satisfies.

2 words. Social media. Social media and dating apps has made everyone so damn accessible. You could be in bed with your partner and be sliding into someone's dms on social media or matching with others on a dating app. Peoples attention spans have gotten so small. Social media has conditioned us that way. TikTok and Instagram make you swipe 24/7. They make you decide in a split second if the content is relevant to you or not. And people do that for hours at a time. Our attention spans translate directly into our relationships. As soon as there's some small issue, people nowadays are more inclined to start thinking, there's someone better for me out there... someone who matches me better. But they're too afraid to breakup and lose everything they've already built with their current partner and don't have the emotional intelligence or decency to communicate with them or end it before cheating.
Because relationships is more concerned about what is gives the individual not that much about what can be created. Thats why people ask each other what they bring to the table. People are more focused on them individually that's why cheating seems less of a problem. I don't think people cheat more there are just more excuses and they are more socially acceptable.
The other reason is that sex is more seen as an act of pleasure than as an act to procreate and have a family. Sex determines if you feel happy in the relationship. People expect it to be perfect right away, since it's a delicate topic it's more common to move on if things don't work out.
I don't even think it's that more common. Just more talked about because of the media. And people find it out easier because of our phones. You can just read the messages on someone's phone. Or the person who your spouse cheated with can easily find you on Instagram or Facebook if they want to tell you about it.
And if it happens more I also kind of want to say it's because of the internet, do you know how easy it is to set up a Tinder profile. You can even block people by using their phone number so they won't see your profile so it's pretty safe for a cheater.
I don’t believe is more common than it used to be. Let’s go way back in history, Kings and wealthy men were always known for having a wife and multiple side chicks around, my grandma and great grandma who were born in the 10s and 30s complained about men being unfaithful. Is nothing knew. Is just that nowadays is easier to catch them cheating and we’re coming to the conclusion that women actually cheat way more than men.

We'll never know if it's more common than in the past, or if it's just more known because of 24-hour instant news and social media. Cheating is not new to the 21st Century, there have been cheaters for centuries.

I don't think its more common now than it ever was. Maybe it's just more visible because it is not considered as serious an offense as it once was so people aren't keeping quiet about it or going to the same lengths to hide it.
I would say that it may have been even more common in the late sixties, early 70s than it is now as that was a period of a "sexual revolution" when all kinds of sexual experimentation was standard practice.
But it has been going on as long as humans have existed.
Whether or not cheating is more common is open to debate. We don't have the date to prove there was less cheating in the past. Regardless, the number of cheats is equal for both men and women. It may not be possible to be otherwise.
There has always been cheating.
Because a lot of people get drawn in by sex. And some are used to a variety. So, when they get stuck in a relationship with just one person they can get bored. Then they have a tendency to go back to variety by cheating.
It was always a problem. I don't think it has gotten worse now. When I hear stories from older generations, there was a lot of cheating too. But now the internet exists and people can hide it better 🤷♀️
Because technology has taken away the need for integrity. It's much easier to recover, find someone new, get a dopamine hit.
People also are far more selfish now, in a way that I guess is kinda redundant to talk about since it's basically the integrity convo again.
Greed like you said. And no real love or commitment. Don't say you love your partner if you're willing to sneak behind their back and become intimate with someone else. Unless they are okay with that. That's the only time.
m I bet it is not that common compared with how it always has been. Social media just reports it more and also possibly allows an extra way to cheat. People have always and will always cheat. As others have said the internet lets people know more and more, also you have people that believe what they read on social media and or assume what influencers say is real life.

Nobody thinks about the consequences of socially networking most of humanity together without any sort of improvement to the functionality of the average human's monkey-brain.
If people are pratting about on social networking sites and dating apps and the like, and encountering strangers by the thousands on a constant basis, they're subconsciously deluding themselves into believing they have more options, and that they don't need to commit / invest as much in making a relationship work... because "there are always more fish in the sea". They're treating each other like passing acquaintances at most, without any suggestion of loyalty nor even the belief that they ought to try...
... And then they seem surprised at the results.
Basically humanity went down the shitter the moment ordinary people were roped into using the Internet.
Because some people don't know how to communicate with their partner about what they want in their relationship. So instead of figuring out how to themselves, they go and cheat.
Cheating is not common; the real motivation for a man to cheat on a woman is one:
Sexual dissatisfaction, many women are not complicit during the sexual act, do not concede some practices that men would like and are not even willing to compromise, ( find something like kink) rightly a man wants to be fully satisfied, so he turns to another woman
If most women were complicit and indulged by even finding a compromise in intimacy with their man, no one would betray them.
This argument also applies in reverse of course.
I bet it's the same as it's always been it's just with the Internet it's now out in the open more. We know what everybody is up to because of social media.
Is it really more of a problem than before? That strikes me as unlikely--especially considering a number of surveys claiming people have LESS sex now than in previous decades. I could kinda buy into "more sex" and "more cheating" but it's hard to square "less sex" and "more cheating."
Because it is so easy now. The internet is trash, and you have people willing to send a ticket to you or fly out to fuck you. Options are endless, just go online people are disgusting.
Men cheat if they've the opportunity, women cheat when they want a better man.
Unfortunately, more and more people are succumbing to temptations.
I think with the internet, and everything making it so easy to cheat, that for some people it's unavoidable these days. Also alternative lifestyles have received a lot of attention opening peoples eyes to having multiple sexual partners. Porn has also contributed to it, such is the case involving my husband and myself.

Social norms have desensitized people to it. It’s normalized in many circles. Social media and dozens of communication systems and methods have made it both easier to do, and to conceal. Lastly, there is a social decay in people behaving honorably, and justifying their actions based on temporary feelings.
It's really not common we live in a hookup culture everybody just wants to hook up people aren't really doing monogamous relationships anymore. Everybody is doing polly or if the are in a monogamous relationship the have a friend or two that joins them

But if we make the case that it is more common now, it's because it's been romanticized by popular culture, and social media gave people the illusion of choice.. So now it's easier to go on some dating Websites/apps without your SO knowing, or share naughty pictures with somebody you've been chatting with online..
No more common than it used to be, difference now is just 3 things compared to, say, the 70s
1) interconnectivity, including social media, make it easier to get caught
2) the philandering of previous generations have made STDs more prevalent and that's a good way to get caught
3) when a spouse was caught cheating it was considered a shame upon the entire family and kept quiet. Now we plaster it on Facebook

Then read "Women" by Semonides of Amorgos (7th Century BC) about the different types of "women".
Because most of the dating scene is Hookup Culture and we have normalized "open relationships" and "polyamory" and "situationships"
Do you have any data to support your statement or hypothesis, and "so much more prevalent" than WHEN? 2 years ago? 5 years ago? 10, 20? 50? Anecdotal evidence or conjecture isn't data. Personally, I don't "believe" it's any worse than it ever was, but I don't have enough information to know if it is or is not.
Lots of influencing in the media, the more the media publicizes it, the more people hear it and the more they hear it, the more they adjust to it and next thing you know it's been normalized.
It hasn’t become more prevalent. Some people have, and always will cheat. And there are endless reasons why.
It's been like that for ages. For reasons I can't remember the other day I googled the actress Jayne Mansfield the other day (mother of Mariska Hargitay of Law & Order) and she cheated on all 3 of her husbands.

Personally, I'm lenient about cheating. I wouldn't break up with a girl for cheating. I think it's okay if women see other guys, especially in a LTR.

You decide if your own values as a person align with those the church has. In case they don't and you like another kind of relationship than what marriage is then "give the middle finger to marriage."
You can still love your partner, of course... that has nothing to do.
Marriage is good when both parties respect it and are indeed believers (have the same values the church does, only then marry). If that is the case then you decide how you'd like to celebrate and how much you spend. The wedding itself does not cost a fraction of those 30 grand you mentioned, and the church also has spendings... they church itself really doesn't make signifficant money from your wedding.

You can't associate their actions to the church because it does not incentivate that. Read why people divorce and only then you can associate it to the marriage happiness.
Religion likes to hide the fact that is observers have the same rate of martial breakdown as everyone else. Religious people have sex outside of marriage as frequently as non religious.
The difference is I can admit that I might need to have some sexual encounters on the side and still come home to my partner and be faithful within the context of our relationship.

They align with the values of the church and they themselves accept to be religious, and therefore this "Religious people have sex outside of marriage" is not true for truly religious people. Religious people happily stand by what the church values.

@Notherndude84 Just to clarify, by religious I don't mean people who consider themselves Christian but that they really are and behave accordingly, meaning no cheating, and therefore all those who divorced because of lack of commitment were NOT Christians (not good or bad, just not Christians at all) and I don't include them... if that makes sense.

In any case if the sates between Christians and non Christians are similar then what is there to prove with that? That we are all humans and might change or end up with the wrong person for x reason?
