Should I be worried that my boyfriend is deleting messages to his female friend?

We’ve had an issue with one girl since the beginning of our relationship because of texts I saw in the past. I was able to get over it and move on but yesterday I saw he deleted their entire Instagram conversation. In the past I’ve told him how deleting messages hurts me and it makes me feel like he’s hiding something. I asked why he did that and he said that he knows I get upset by their conversations so he deleted it so I wouldn’t have to see it. We got into a really long argument and I’m so confused and hurt. Should I be suspicious? He asked for screenshots from the girl of what was said and it was relatively normal but I’m hurt that he deleted all of it.
