Is it acceptable for a girl to slap a guy? Is it grounds for a break up or divorce?

If a guy slapped or hit his female partner, almost all of us would insist that such behavior is unacceptable and we would agree that it was grounds for an immediate break up or divorce. No argument, no doubt.

In my experience, if a girl loses her temper and wants to strike out physically, it is most often done by a slap rather than a closed fist. Functionally, a slap from a woman means the same disrespect as a punch from a guy but, obviously, a slap from a girl doesn't usually hurt in the same as a punch from a guy.

So. . . what if a girl slaps her male partner, is that behavior acceptable or is it unacceptable just like a punch from a guy? If a girl slaps her partner, is that grounds for an immediate break up or divorce?

It is never acceptable for a woman to slap a partner in anger . If she is capable of slapping a man,  she is capable of slapping or shaking a child . Zero tolerance. This isn't about self-defense or rape or any of that . That falls into a different category and of course women should do whatever they can to defend themselves in those cases. But this is about non-existent emotional regulation. Toddlers slap. Adults should know better or suffer the consequences. I will also add that Hollywood needs to eliminate the female-slap-when-mad from cinema...

Women slapped men on the face in very old movies but I never thought it was appropriate for them to do so.

I wasn't aware that today's women have continued this practice and if I were a man and some woman bitch slapped me, I would turn her over my knee and give her a spanking she wouldn't forget!!

I'm of the opinion that it's not okay for anyone to hit anyone and in the case where a woman hits a man, then he has the right to defend himself. The ideal situation would be to subdue the woman, but in scenarios where that's not an easy option, then he should have the right to defend himself using force.

There are scenarios in which it is somewhat more okay for a girl to hit a guy. Like if a guy cheats on his partner, then I wouldn't blink if she hit him. Guys are physically generally physically stronger, so it doesn't apply the same way if she was to cheat on him. But again... I wouldn't exactly care too much if a girl that cheated on her partner got slapped.

Anyways, you get it... for the most part, physical force should be a last resort in situations that you absolutely can't avoid it.

Our ancestor were smarter than most people today. In the old days anybody could slap anybody except kids could not slap adults. Slapping was used for a variety of reasons:

A. Remind the other person that they are crossing a boundary they should not (a boundary determined by society, not your random feelings/imagination today). Example being a guy trying to touch a woman without her approval. Now some may confuse this with self-defense but it really wasn't. The defense was in the social order/rules.

B. Remind the other person to stop acting in an abnormal way. In the old days they didn't create 200 different definitions of mental illness. Instead, at the first sign of someone being abnormal the nearest person would slap them hard. This cured that person instantly in almost all cases. It turns out that telling someone they have a disease and talking about it endlessly just makes the problem worse. Like watering a weed on your lawn.

C. To discipline kids maybe age 5+

So to your question: If the slap is for one of the reasons our ancestors had I'm okay with it. Otherwise not. Although the funny thing about that is as more and more people in society say the old ways were bad & shouldn't matter there's really MORE reason to slap people since now it's all about what you feel/think is best and not about traditions. Now it's okay to slap somebody because they smiled or didn't smile and you can always just claim that they hurt your feelings. Not in my home/relationships tho. I never was okay with violence directed at me UNLESS I did something so horrible that's justied. And I never did something that horrible.

I find that equality should not supersede common sense judgement

Meaning that if a strong woman gets violent with a weaker man and harms him to an advantage degree then her gender is no excuse for anything and a divorce should be the course of action

But if her slap barely tickles, it’s still unacceptable, but could be seen as a solvable problem and not an immediate nuking of the relationship

being under emotions during events or more or less heated conversations is a poor excuse...

Neither man nor woman should feel comfortable hitting the person they claim to be in love with regardless of the circumstances or reasons behind it. Mutual respect is what we should aim for and know when it's time to take a breather and regroup after taking a break from one another. Grounds for divorce? I don't think it really is, especially if you are capable of taking a hit and being able to be unhurt physically by it but moreover hurt by the actions of it. Definitely worth discussing once things have calmed down and boundaries will need to be established as to why it is never ok to put hands on one another in the future, but divorce is not going to even be considered over an isolated incident. If the behavior becomes compulsive or a regular response in your arguments or differences then it is definitely something that will be put on the table after already setting the boundaries only to have them disregarded time and again.

For me any kind of physical violence, unless it is for self-defense (or some previously consented bedroom activity) is unacceptable and grounds for break up/divorce.

My general rule is one is all you get and we can still salvage the relationship, a second time just means violence it's ingrained in the brain and can't be fixed.

Sadly I lived this double standard a couple of times, that a girl can hit a guy and it's fine, and it's something I am not disposed towards tolerating. To this end, my wife has the golden medal of never raising her hands during an argument, never.

But overall I am happy to say the big majority of my relationships where free of physical violence, and even a particular girl I dated who was called "crazy" and "gangster/delinquent" was actually very respectful during and after our break up.

If a girl slaps a guy, he should respond by telling her to never do it again, and that there will be consequences if she does. If she does slap him again, he should immediately knock her on her ass.

Women have been conditioned to believe they can hide behind their gender and get away with violence against men, because they know men are conditioned from a young age to never hit a girl under any circumstances. The only way that will even change is if men reset the expectation so women know they can't get away with violence against men just because they are female.

Men owe it to each other to do this.

for me personally, it COMPLETELY depends on the situation. if you're talking out of your ass, i'll slap you, not because im mad but because u need to snap out of it. if i was doing the same thing and my partner slapped me, im sure i would be mad at first cause i'm sure it would hurt, but if it was for a good reason i would be fine. there's a HUGE difference between a slap and a punch. if you get slapped it's probably because you said something to deserve it, even if that's not what u wanna hear. if someone actually had the intent to hurt you, they wouldn't slap you, they would punch you. although if this is happening on the daily, you should probably talk about it or break up.

Not only is it disrespectful, it’s also not very smart since anatomically, we are physically weaker and men can easily over power us.
