My boyfriend and I have only been dating for 2 months and we didn’t discuss exchanging gifts but I wanted to get him a gift anyway. Therefore, I don’t expect anything in return this Christmas, but when I give him his gift, what can I say to avoid making him feel potentially uncomfortable about it?

You aren’t gifting to receive something in return, you’re doing it because you care and that should be your mindset when choosing to gift anyone, because there’s always the chance that person won’t gift you back. Even family.
In this case though I think it’s pretty universally known that unless you don’t celebrate Christmas, it’s customary to get something for your partner. The gift doesn’t have to cost a bunch of money, it can be simple like flowers or even something he made. It’s the thought that counts, and for him to celebrate Christmas without thinking of you the way you thought of him, then to me it’s very telling as to where you fall on his priority list and shows his true level of care.
