Why are so many unwed couples buying houses?

If you jointly owned a house and are not married, and your relationship crumbles, you have no easy way of undoing the joint ownership. It becomes a legal and financial nightmare. You will not have the aid of a divorce judge in splitting the property.

The vast majority of women in that situation would be married to their partner if they could be. The reason they are not is because their partners are avoiding marriage. Why? For exactly the reasons you outlined. Without divorce, women who split from their partners don't have a complicit legal system to aid and abet in their efforts to unfairly destroy their men's lives. Divorce, and the legal system that surrounds it, give women undue power over men, that many/most women are more than happy to exploit when divorcing their husbands. That's why 80% of divorces are filed by women. Remove divorce from the equation and women lose that power, and suddenly things become much more fair for BOTH partners

Why does every man bring up the “women file 80% of divorces” argument, yet doesn’t acknowledge the fact that so many of those divorces are justified? Should women not have the legal protections that marriage brings? Honestly, if a man cheats or abuses his wife, he deserves to lose half his stuff.

Because lack of commitment is the #1 reason for divorce (Google it), NOT infidelity or domestic abuse. And statistics show that men do NOT commit even close to 80% of adultery, nor do they commit anything close to 80% of domestic abuse. The reality is the difference between men and women, on average, in adultery and domestic abuse is in the single digits, nowhere close to 80/20.

So, why do women file 80% of divorces then? Because they lack commitment, and they are incentivized by a very female-biased court system to do so, which most seem more than happy to take full advantage of.

Your response here indicates you think men are at fault in the majority of divorces, which is false. The longer we allow that lie to persist, the further down the toilet we allow the institution of marriage to sink. Society has been holding men accountable for their behavior forever and giving women a pass on theirs. It's time we start holding women accountable before marriage is a thing of the past.

Yeah I get it I don’t know either. But too many people also marry way too fast and it ends horribly. They marry the wrong person. They marry someone using them. Abusing them. The list goes on even if they can’t see it now. There are a lot of marriages that don’t last 10 years and some much shorter then that.

Because it’s an investment so you don’t have to be married to someone to purchase a home together , as long as the both of them are maintains the home and putting money into it , they will get their share or even more if they both decide to end the relationship.
