I’ve upset my boyfriend and know I need to apologize, but my pride is getting in the way. It wasn’t a huge issue, but I overreacted, and now he’s expecting a conversation when he gets home. How do I swallow my pride and genuinely apologize without getting defensive?

First accept that pride IS a defensive mechanism , your admitting fault so you are vulnerable but if he is any sort of man he will see that vulnerability and that heart felt & sincere apology and know that at least you know it was wrong and that you naturally want to be better



It can be hard to have your flaws exposed , to be seen as less than perfect because you want to be that but it’s normal so maybe give yourself an emotional hug first and forgive yourself for being human and making a mistake

There's an old trick I've learned from watching the TV show married with children. The earlier episodes one involved peg was about to apologize to al because she knew she screwed up but right before she was about to say she was sorry he cuts her off saying we're suppose to get rain tomorrow. Basically changing the subject so she can keep her pride and he still gets his apology
