This is one of my pet peeves. Probably my hangup more than the women who try to hug me. But, am I a huggy guy? Well, it depends.

If it's my kids, my wife when I was married, or other family, or friends I've known for years and have a bond with, sure I'll hug without hesitation.

But, I feel uncomfortable hugging people (usually women) I just met or only known for a very short time. A LOT of women seem to use a hug like a handshake. They go in for a hug goodnight after an hour of conversation. Or they come running over to me to give me a hug as a greeting if I've only met them on one other occasion.

It's nice. It's friendly. But it seems phony too. Lady, you barely know me. I can't believe you're THAT excited to see me again. It just seems like a "Hollywood Hug", "Air Kisses". Don't do that, LOL. Cringe.

And I know some guys, especially older guys, hang around with their tongues hanging out trying to find a way to weasel one of those hugs out of an attractive woman. That's not me. I don't want to be "That Guy".

I actually have a running ummm... "fight" with a group of married women about this. They know casual hugs make me uncomfortable. It's good natured and they think it's funny torturing me with hugs. So I actually end up getting hugged constantly. I think they're trying to condition me like a dog, LOL. They've kept it up long enough that I sort of see them as OK to hug now.

I can be. Not like the overt kind who goes around demanding hugs and telling you they’re a hugger, haha

But I kind of do the dap-with-shoulder-bump semi-hug in a lot of situations, at least with dudes….

…. and sometimes I get left hanging, lmao, like the other guy doesn’t really get into the shoulder part. “Too cool for school”, I guess😂 But it’s whatever, that’s him being awkward, not me, haha.

Women, I’m more likely to hug, if I know them like that. I’m also a big friendly and enthusiastic high-fiver with ladies I don’t yet have hug clearance with yet, haha. It feels awkward just being like “hey” to someone after I’ve had warmer greetings with others, so it’s my way of breaking the ice or involving people I’m less familiar with.

For me it also depends on the person, but yes... I am a hugger. I have even hugged a woman that I saw crying at the bus stop lol.  I don't go hugging just anyone though, haha.

It depends. When I first got my first girlfriend, she would hug me every time she saw me. Of course I hugged her back. But it wasn’t really allowed as we were at a Christian camp and hugs weren’t allowed between men and women. After camp was over, she and I were hugging each other like crazy. A lot of girls I’m close friends with enjoy hugs. Some of my best dude friends and I shake hands before we hug. If it’s family, I hug everyone, especially my mom, my dad and my sister.

There is a whole 'Free Hugs Campaign'. Why would you not want skin to skin contact in a non-sexual context. The medical benefits have been well documented.
