What do you think modern marriage is about?

I keep hearing people say this and that about how marriage has changed, that it’s not the same and doesn’t represent the “values” that it used to. What do you think?

I think many people marry too soon and for the wrong reasons. People marry because they knocked someone up or got knocked up by someone. People marry for financial reasons. People marry because they like the sex. People marry just to have a family. People marry because they feel chemistry early on but may have issues later on that make them not compatible but now they are married.

People should marry when they feel that genuine connection. I don’t judge what marriage looks like will be different for different people but most of the time I can tell when a marriage is going to eventually fail and more times then not I am correct.

Without that genuine connection unless one can be established chances of it faking are high

Well I agree in the strictest sense marriage is like language. It's cultural, generational, and has changed steadily for purpose and ceremony throughout human history. It's a social and monetary convention that humans have adopted. So it has changed and likely will always change. I don't pretend to know the moral or social implications that people commonly call values. That is extremely subjective and more related to value signaling within certain social groups. Not what I would call inherent values... like murder is bad.

I feel like everyone is different me ans my husband both work but he pays all the bills I pay for groceries and do 99% of the cooking but we both clean

It's an odated concept that is irrelevant in most areas of the world now.
It's simply a control tactic used by the church and the state
