My distaste for the incredibly low expectations placed on POC in Western cultures.

I'm so tired of people around me (specifically white people) pretending that obviously underwhelming and subpar shit ought to be celebrated or appreciated for the simple fact it was made/done by a brown person. Whether it's art, crime, science; whatever. It's beyond condescending and I think our minority populations are worse off because we do it.

I go to an art museum and I have to wade through a bunch of 3,000 year old clay replicas that look like what would happen if the Pilsbury Doughboy grew flappy tits or a grotesquely large penis, and I'm supposed to pretend like I'm standing in awe of a robust and prolific culture. Meanwhile, two exhibits down I can see the hyper-realistic paintings and sculptures created during the European Renaissance or by the Persians or Iraqis during the proliferation of Islam. I'm sorry, but one of those exhibits is stunning in beauty and a breath-taking display of technical mastery and skill. The other simply isn't.

And it's the same kind of thing with modern art. Some modern art is fucking incredible; I once had the privilege of seeing a mural painted by a Japanese American that depicted a Samurai riding a chariot, with an LA Lakers logo on his helmet. It was a gorgeous commentary piece on the emotional conflict between the modern and old world. Other modern art, specifically a lot of the hiphop art, lacks that substance. And it's not even a taste thing. A gaudy, bright colored cartoonish painting of a young woman dj-ing certainly has it's place in the world, but that place probably isn't beside the mural of a modern samurai.

I guess I'm just frustrated by the pandering.

That just because I am well off financially and come from a big industrial family, it doesn't mean I have to help out or give money to every rando who asks me.

Life is not fair and I recognize I am very fortunate and privileged, but I refuse to see it as some kind thing I have to "atone" for. I am not a charity. I am not Scrooge either and I help my friends and those close to me, but not someone I barely know who cold texts me for a bill.

I think I confuse people. I'm an introvert. By default, lot of people think that means I'm shy. On the other hand I will say anything to anyone. That appears to shock them. I'm told I can be intimidating. I've been called an arrogant asshole, jerk, prick, mean, etc.

But the reason I hit a nerve with a lot of people is saying something like

I get called an asshole for dismissing, as worthless, the opinions of anyone who is uninformed about or has no knowledge of any given subject. For example, your opinion on "why gas costs what it does" if you have absolutely ZERO understanding or knowledge of the gas, oil and energy business, is worthless from an information standpoint. Do you have a "right" to that opinion - sure, but so what? It doesn't mean you know what you're talking about.

I believe, being trans is a mental illness, one of the worst.
Before you condemn me, hear me out, it is LITERALLY your mind rejecting the body you were born in. That is an absolutely horrible state to be in, it deserves compassion, understanding, and support from public health institutions to go through guided and supported transitions.
I have a lot of trans friends who resort to DIY HRT and don't trust therapists, and they would kill me if I told them I think it is a mental illness, but I'm sorry, in my opinion it is not "just something normal", it is god damn serious.
