It... really does depend on what the argument is about. I honestly would take whichever side I thought was right. More likely, I wouldn't think it was as black and white as that. (in which case... I'd explain that).

Here's how I see that. If you think your SO is wrong... in an argument with your mom. You have to side with your mom (obviously).

Pretending to side with your significant other, might make your life easier. But that's your mom (who you know is in the right) who you're abandoning. No.

On the other hand. If you mom is in-the-wrong; Then you wouldn't want to be pretending to side with your mom... knowing your SO is in-the-right. That would be insane.

Go with how you feel. It's going to depend on the argument.

You won't be able to stay out of it. That's delusional.

Thanks. It was really a trivial situation from my POV. It was only later that I realized that my SO was making a huge deal about it. I actually stayed out of it. If I remember correctly, I actually told my SO that I didn't care and that they were both adults and they could work it out themselves. Again, it was really a trivial situation. I needed a ride from the airport and they both wanted to pick me up. I would have been just as happy with a taxi. As a matter of fact, after all of the hullabaloo I wish I would have just taken a taxi. My ex held that against me for years.

I stay out of it because that's why I've stayed single among other reasons - I'd rather not have to add conflict to my life lol I'd rather enjoy my single bliss , 😍 ❣️

If two people have beef with each other I always tell them to resolve it on their own. SOMETIMES I'll mediate (like an intervention) with both parties in the room. (Read the story of Solomon and the baby. The one most likely to give in is usually more in the right... but with family "right" is often way more challenging to define.) After basic airing out of the grievances you then have to tell them to figure it out on their own and to remember to be mindful.

It was a petty disagreement about giving me a ride from the airport. Nobody was disrespecting.

Context matters but in general I would take my SO’s side, my mum is known for starting arguments out of boredom.

I knew what was going on, I just didn't care that much. It was a trivial situation as you can read above.

I think the best course of action in any situation like this involving family is to stay the f out. There's no way you're going to win by getting in between two people fighting. No matter what sign you choose, the other side is going to be mad. So I just stayed out of it. That didn't work very well though. But I'd do it again.
