in my opinion there are times when each person has to take up for the other. Last person I was involved with, for example, some days my guy would be sick or really stressed and needed me to step up and tell folks (yes, even his mom) to clear out and give him space. In those moments I had to take charge of any tasks, projects, people, etc. And he'd do the same for me on the days that I felt stressed or overwhelmed.

"Relationship" means you can "relate" and feel for your partner, that you're facing challenges together and helpful to one another. Leading becomes an act of love and not so much an show of power.

I believe that's the man's role. Leadership is associated with masculinity, if you lack masculinity chances are I'm going to lose interest or not being interested at all to start with.
