How do Europeans view relationships/marriages?

I've met some that view them as "transactional"... they keep separate finances and worlds, like a business deal but not merged... separated. They live in the same house and align goals, but there's "his" and "hers"... not together.

Is this European or just these individuals?

Are you from the USA? I'm guessing that based on the automatic assumption that Europe is just some vague blob of contiguousness over an ocean.
There are about 40 to 50 countries in Europe, depending on who you ask.
Most of those countries have distinct separate cultures... to say nothing of distinct cultures within different parts of countries.
And you expect to get one unified answer that accounts for the entirety of Europe?
How do Americans (i. e. people from the USA, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, and everything else west of the Atlantic) view relationships / marriages?
