Prior to that it seems pushing it to me but if you don't have any family nearby it seems reasonable.

It is odd she laughed because at some point partners would be offended if they are not emergency contact. It would seem she is not at that point (yet).

by the way medical power of attorney is something worth doing as treatment can be delayed if there isn't someone who can authorize if you are not in a position to consent.
