Lots of people do this, but it's not unique to men. It's a trait of certain people, not a gender issue.

It's called "weaponized incompetence" and it's a tactic to get out of doing certain tasks, by appearing ignorant, so that your partner will stop expecting you to do those tasks. Children and co-workers will pull that trick, too.

It's pure laziness, and it's bullshit, no matter who does it. They just don't want to do something, whether they know how to, or not, so they act stupid to get out of doing the work.
