Ackward friend situation?

I known this guy since high school and 30 years later we are friends. We talked about being roommates to help each other out and that I was coming down in a couple of weeks so we can talk about it some more. Well I came down to talk about it and this man totally forgot about this whole roommate thing. He don’t even tell me that he already moved in the summer. Anyways he spent the night and we slept in the same bed. We cuddled and made out. No sex was involved. Anyways 2 years ago he got out of a relationship with his baby mama. He told me the next day that he still loves her and started talking to her again. I feel so awkward now. If we are friends why did we sleep in the same bed and make out knowing that he loves his ex still. Now we definitely can’t be roommates lol. Should I continue being a friend or back away so he can be with his ex? Need advice
