Second Marriage?

My current boyfriend and I have both been married before- I have no kids, but he has two (one from a prior relationship, one from his ex-wife). We’re almost at the 2-year mark, and not in any rush to move in or anything, but I’d like to know it’s going in the right direction. He claims he never thought he’d marry again, but I have always seen myself married to my forever person, so this bothers me a bit. We’ve casually talked about why he feels this way, and it’s mainly because his wife cheated and because he’s had terrible relationships before me, but I still wonder if I’m wasting my time despite how much we love each other and how well we get along?

If you’re comfortable enough with him to talk about marriage at any capacity then you should feel fine asking where he stands and where the connection is going. You’re both very grown, and I know that usually in that age range men can be set in both their ways and their beliefs. Ask the right questions now, so that you aren’t further investing or wasting your time on a guy who isn’t on the same page.


If you believe that having a conversation with him about this would make the situation seem rushed or out of place after 2 years then you’ve spent too much time drifting along, going with the flow out of fear that you’ll chase him off rather than advocating for yourself. Which should always come first and foremost, mind you.

I’m not having doubts really, I guess I just wonder how common it is for guys who’ve been married once to not want to remarry (especially when there’s been infidelity on his ex’s side)

I'm in my second marriage. We've been married for 9 years and counting.

My ex-wife and I amicably divorced after 20 years and 3 kids. We still occasionally see each other at family events, and exchange happy birthday and holiday wishes.
