How do I go about building a relationship at this point?

I was deadset on making my last crush my girlfriend. I never had so much in common with anyone or had such a strong connection with anyone. It took EIGHT years to built, only to fall appart, literally overnight. I'm 33 already and there's no way in hell I'm gonna be able to built that kind of connection again. Do you know how long that took? In 8 years, I will be in my 40s, so I don't know what to do.

At this point I feel it would be easier to just try to built something with someone I've already known for a while. But I doubt we'll have the kinds of things in common I did with this last girl, and that I'll be able to share as much.

You shouldn’t put a time cap on when you’re meant to find the right woman, because you can’t see the future and have no idea what’s in store for you. I’m sure at some point in those 8 years you started losing hope that you’d find a woman who matched what you wanted, then you got proven wrong in the form of meeting this woman. You just never know. I met my fiancé at 30 completely at random, two different times before giving him my number. Never would’ve expected to meet him once, let alone twice.

8 years? It takes me about 8 days to know if I am going to love a woman. Love should be fireworks, not smouldering kindling.

Okay, not cold. People I know a little a bit about beforehand by working, studying, doing volunteer work with them or whatever... enough to know they are broadly speaking not nutjobs and not evil.

Beyond that, I just trust my gut. Who dares wins.

I would caveat there is a meaningful difference between loving someone and being able to live with them without driving each other batty... working that out takes longer.
