Do you listen to your friends when they advise you on your love life?

Anyone who cares for you just wants to see you happy, whether they're parents, siblings, extended family, or friends. However, they don't generally have the full picture. They only have whatever picture you paint for them and a lot of the time it's inaccurate because there's usually 2 scenarios people share things about their love life. Either ranting about negative stuff in the relationship, where they focus on only the bad stuff, or sharing good things about their partner that make them feel loved. It's usually not the stuff in between.

That's why it's best to take your friends advice about your love life with a grain of salt. There may be some truth to what they say based on the little knowledge they have of the scenario, but you know yourself, your partner, and the scenario best, so you usually have the best picture and deep down know what the right play is, though a lot of the time, you may not want to accept what the right play is.

No, if I did, I'd have never given my wife a chance.

The one person's advice I did follow and still do, though he has been gone since 2004, is my grandfather's.

He is the one that instilled in me that it's my job to take care of, stand next to, and protect my wife, and to never stop dating my wife. And to pay attention to the little things and never take them for granted. And a ton of other things. He also taught me how to cook lol.

Well I don't talk about my relationship problems or intimate stuff to anyone. It's just between me and him.

But overall I do respect my friends and I do listen to their advices, still in the end I decide for myself based on my gut feeling.

My mom always gives me unasked advice for my relationship but her advice isn't based on my relationship, like my boyfriend might like blue and she would advice me to get him a green gift and if I say, but he likes blue, she will insist on green is better because all men care about green. So i don't listen to her at all!

I listen but I don’t outsource my decisions.

Friends can see patterns, red flags, and blind spots I might miss when emotions are involved.

Their perspective matters.

But they don’t feel what I feel, live my relationship, or deal with the consequences of my choices. I do.

So I take their advice as input, not instruction.

At the end of the day, I trust my own judgment and values to make the final call.

I like people who give advice. But depending who they are the odds of me listening are 50/50 just for a few min

The only time I asked for help my friend didn't show up despite I had always been there for her, through thick and thin, my ex was good at having her wrapped around his finger. That was the end of our friendship. Had I listened to her lousy 'advice' God know what could have happened if I had stayed any longer. Later as my life was going great and I was happy she had the nerve to show up, I closed the door on her. If she wss not there for me, not once, when it was bad it was no need now.

I can give advice but very saldom if at all ask for advice irl, overall. I try to work it out on my own, us, by ourselves, but if it is over my head I need help dealing with it, could be its my own fault, not his, but then don't ask where it could hurt him, us. I have understood that my exes talked a whole lot more about me, our relationship when it was and when it was over. My partner too. There is a chance it gets one sided and the ones he confided in could then turn it against me, as they are close to him, not me. Been times when I could tell, but not ask. Gets weird.

Only one has ever given me their thoughts on, “what I need to do”. It was pretty basic … “You need to find yourself a nice girl here on the mountain.” That is the deepest the “love advice” has ever been for me.

I have certain friends I go to for guidance, and I’ll listen to them.

Most of my friends will hear me out and often take my advice.

What would it take for me to change my path? Already happening. Apparently all I needed was an acquaintance thinking I was chasing a dream

Actually we just really want someone to advice us but not follow their words. No matter what they say at the end of the day it's our own heart and mind we follow

Lol. I guess either is fair game. Typically intervention is unsolicited, but sometimes even if you ask for advice you don't like the answer.
