How much effort would you put in to maintain a long distance relationship?

This isn't a personal situation but I saw a movie about it recently and it got me thinking about what lengths are reasonable?

The answer depends on how you define LDR. If an LDR is one in which I will see my partner only once every three months, then I would never initiate such a relationship. I was once in a relationship in which we were 250 miles apart but had plans to see each other every other weekend. I was ready for that. And when I started dating the woman who is now my wife, we lived about 85 miles apart. I drove to see her almost every weekend (she came to see me some weekends) until who moved to my hometown and we started living together.

That is what happened with the woman who lived 250 miles away. Initially, she started out 85 miles away, I saw her every weekend, and we had an established relationship. When she moved further away, I tried to adjust to the distance and keep going but she was unwilling. That was the handwriting on the wall. I later saw her a few times, but the spark was gone.

I think it depends if I truly loved someone enough as long as it was mutual I would put more effort in verses meeting someone random online.

Long distance can work. But it takes work…. And it’s not the same not having someone there. And being loyal… Well that takes a lot of trust and a lot of integrity. Someone can cheat on you…. And you could never know and never find out.

Yes, then I would put whatever effort I could into the relationship to make it work. If it didn’t, I’d be sad but understand why.
