So my man is currently in jail and he’s been acting a little weird so I told him if he can’t give me commitment or if he has other options then he responds and says okay and I blocked him but I’m now realizing maybe was just saying okay because the other day he was like he knows I’ve been hurt and it is his job to show me different.

Not that it is any of my business but a guy that is in jail, for whatever reason, is not worth even speaking to, not to mention committing to a potential relationship.

I could not tolerate to be in a relation with a person that has committed a criminal offense and that has to go to jail for it. This is an absolute taboo and huge red flag. I don't think that I could ever feel safe when this person is around and I would not want to be close to that person.

But if those things don't disturb you, then you are not in the wrong for voicing out your concern.

I think I knew my answer to this question when I read the part about him being in jail. I’m not trying to be cavalier. This is not a casual thing, getting arrested and placed behind bars. You should be pretty concerned about his behavior and character, not getting a commitment from a person who’s locked in a cage. Maybe he’s really innocent and a great guy, but he needs to focus on serving his sentence and becoming a better person instead of phone calls to you. You made the right call.

You weren’t wrong for blocking him. He dodged your commitment talk and answered with a lazy “okay” instead of reassuring you. Words like “I’ll show you different” mean nothing without consistent action, and from jail his actions are already limited. Protect your peace, not his ego.
