Do relationships work better when the man likes the woman more, or when the woman likes the man more?

From what I’ve seen, there’s usually one person who loves the other a little more, even in relationships that work well. It’s a bit of an uncomfortable topic, but which dynamic do you think actually works better (or has worked better for you)?

Some people say when the man likes the woman more, she gets treated really well but may be more prone to cheating. Others say when the woman likes the man more, the man feels appreciated and grateful, though sometimes he can grow complacent.

Curious what people think. The obvious answer would be a balance but in the case where balance is absent which way do you think tends to work better?

The woman needs to like the man more. Women are naturally more well versed in relationships and are better suited to do the emotional labor of maintaining it. She can't do that if she is indifferent to it. It also allows the man to do what he is good at... maintaining everything else. We can't focus on the relationship and the crisp lawn stripes simultaneously.

There’s almost always a “one-loves-more” vibe, you’re right. From what I see coaching couples, relationships last longer and feel safer when the woman likes the man *slightly* more. She invests emotionally, he feels valued, and he’s less likely to take her for granted.

Neither. No relationship typically lasts that is lopsided. Relationships ebb and flow. That is the nature of them when they're healthy.

My wife for example fell in love with me. She was attracted to me, while I just liked her at the time. Not that she wasn't attractive. I just wasn't really attracted to her. At least no more than any other fetching woman at the time. But she pursued me and wouldn't let go. And over time I started to see what she knew seemingly from the start. That we were a great match. We have so much in common. She tells me I'm a doofus, and a lot of times I am.😂 But I also know she's always got my back. And after being married 28 years. I can honestly say I was the lucky one. What she saw in me I'll never fully understand. Because she's such a much better person than me. In that respect maybe that's why it works. Because she felt I was worth catching, and I know she's worth keeping.🤷‍♂️
