Why do some partners obsess over constant cleaning and chores so much?

Don’t get me wrong , I like having a clean home but it isn’t my top priority every second of the day I am also ok if things aren’t done right away , I don’t focus my life around constantly cleaning the house like some girls’ I been with did , like the only thing that made her happy is cleaning , if she c’s me sitting down it was like the worst thing ever and she would be like dishes need done , counters need wiped laundry needs folded blah blah blah , like cleaning is the first thing that is on her mind .

I realized I can not be in a relationship with a girl that is like that anymore , that holds cleaning as the top priority, cleaning should be something we do when it’s convenient for us not the other way around.

I like girls’ that can relax and not worry about things like that all the time , I rather spend quality time with my partner over doing the dishes or folding laundry , my ex would always bitch at me for not cleaning something the second i woke up and made myself some coffee , to the point I got sick of it and started saying if it’s that important to you , is your hands broken? Do it yourself then , why yell at me about it

I suppose it's an individual thing. I'm a neat freak. I can't stand clutter so I try to control the amount of stuff I bring into my home. Anything I don't use gets tossed on a regular basis.

Also I can't stand watching someone else work while I sit on my ass. So I'll jump in to help unless it's a one person task and I can't get involved in any useful way. it still bugs me to sit and watch though.

When I cook, there are always lulls in activity while you wait for stuff to boil or broil or fry or bake. I use that time to clean as I go, load the dishwasher, and wipe down the counter. Instead of going and sitting down for 5 minutes, I try to make use of that small block of time. It means the cleanup after a meal is minimal and fast.

I try not to let problems build over time. Clean the damned toilet a couple of times a week. It takes 30 seconds. If your usual day for vacuuming is Friday but the place is looking shabby on Wednesday, grab the vacuum and get busy.

Shoes come off in the garage before I enter the house. Laundry gets done folded, hung up, and put away on Wednesdays. My total involvement outside of waiting for the washer and dryer to finish is about 10 minutes.

Wednesday is also the day I give myself a quick haircut and beard trim so I always look put together. And that includes all body hair grooming as well. Total time maybe 15 min.

For me, I'd rather use these small moments of time to keep ahead of everything rather than wait until things become monumental tasks that I'll either just accept as OK after a while or avoid because of it has become a major problem.

Training gone wrong.
we were taught to take care of things as it comes.
nowadays… kids raised to leave things undone and set priorities differently.
I am not the cleanest…. however, we were raised to not leave dishes over night.
so before bed… kitchen must be cleaned up. If we both cook, we both clean… we just do it so the house is ready for the next day.
basic training, discipline for next generation. Our kids sometimes forget to clean well… so I point out, they clean it better. Not in a bad way… but they didn’t like that they didn’t clean it well.

when we point fingers… families fall apart.

so let say… in the morning I see that their might be a dish here or there… I would put away before I make my tea… or put all the dishes away from dish machine … it gets the day start a little more smoothly.

my hubby is not perfect and so am I… but our love trumps the little things in life to break us apart. So we accept and help each other take care of things.
if we can’t/wont… we just hire out…

life is too short to fight with our loved ones over little things.

A lot of women do it to keep up appearances. Men who become stay at home dads revel in the ease of the job and manage to be better at it than women. Because they have nothing to prove, and don't need to keep up appearances "hardest job in the world" bullshit. You don't even interact with your kids Cheryl. You sit them in front of a screen for 10 hours a day. Meanwhile dads tossing the kid around, showing them things, teaching them things... anecdotally, I see women too often treat their kids like they're a burden, nuisance etc...

Cleaning the unused spare bedroom, cleaning the floors despite not being dirty, deliberately NOT learning time saving methods of doing things, my personal favorite, letting the kids dirty the house on purpose/letting them ravage their closets and changing clothes multiple times a day, to justify having to do laundry EVERYDAY, cleaning the house everyday... its all a stupid, and tired woman thing. Like, why are you folding your grown ass kids laundry still? Why are you cleaning their rooms for them? TF do you mean you make multiple meals because X doesn't eat potatoes, and Y doesn't eat beans?

Further more, we see your cleanliness standards when we dated you. TF did you become a neat freak all of a sudden when you moved in? Or worse, she's a neat freak for appearances, the garage is packed to the brim with clutter, to where she has to park on the street, her side of the bathroom is a mess, the drain is always clogged with hair, her car still has french fries and cheerios on the floor since 2017... But YOU? You need to do XYZ! "Let me make a tik tok about your towel folding skills, let me criticize the way you packed up dinner last night, that random cup in the sink how dare you... don't worry about my completely unusable back seat! So what if I have 3 closets worth of shit and you have 4 shirts and two pairs of pants (because I literally stole your closet)? I NEED my 58 pairs of shoes and 21 purses!"

I think I totally understand where you are coming from , I’ve had at least one partner like that.

Some people don’t just value cleaning—they tie it to feeling in control, reducing anxiety, and feeling respected. So when they see chores undone, it bothers them far more than it bothers other people.

The real issue isn’t usually cleanliness; it’s differing priorities. You seem to view chores as something to fit around life, while your ex seemed to view life as something to fit around chores.

Neither approach is wrong, but when one partner expects everything to be done immediately and criticizes the other for relaxing, resentment is almost inevitable. That’s a compatibility issue as much as a cleaning issue.

I think that it's time that you give more on this one. After all, why should cleaning only happen on YOUR schedule? This is one of those things that you are going to have to meet her half way on. You aren't the boss after all!

Good sign of a woman. Its called nesting. Many hands make light work. Anyone would get annoyed in a relationship if they see you sitting around while they are working.

I myself like to get things done so I dont have to worry about them rather than sitting around. Generally I have tasks and choirs to sort around the home and outside but will always help my wife if I can. Then when everything is done we can chill in each other's company.

Physical cleaning enlivens the soul if done out of goodness. Do not clean just for discipline or because not doing so is lazy: that's intellectualizing and intellectualizing living interactions is anti-soul. And if you do not want to clean as an expression of goodness, then your soul is dormant, you might be a loathing person because everyone stuck in the intellect is one, the intellect belongs to the mineral body and all it knows is power and survival. People never tell the entire story... usually when someone constantly screams at your to do chores... it means that you aren't doing YOUR SHARE of the chores. It's very common for women to be doing 90% of the chores around the house while paying half the bills.
