+1 yAre housewives who have their husbands spend fifty hours a week working who then use that money to pay for the housewives house, food, clothing, jewelry, luxury goods and then on weekends they do the yard work considered lazy? I mean why is it that when some one expects something of a woman its him being lazy but when women expect the world and a half from the guy no one bats an eye? Seems rather absurd. She is a housewife, that means that his job is to provide and protect which he does full time, and her job is to maintain the home which takes a couple of hours at BEST (seriously laundry machines, vacuums, dishwashers etc. all take minutes to do what would normally take hours.). So no, only sexist women who cannot empathize with men and put themselves in men's shoes think that those men are lazy, reasonable people realize that he is contributing as much (and technically according to one study slightly more) then she is.

It depends. If she cooked dinner and they eat together when he gets home from a hard day of work and he has her clean the dishes, then that is ok because anything to do with meal time is part of her responsibilities. However, if he grabs a beer, drops the bottle and breaks it, then he is lazy if he does not clean it up. There is a bit of a fine line there, but generally whoever goes to work more should clean less. She should not clean a mess she had no part of.

+1 yIt really depends, if he is out of the house often, then I wouldn’t consider it lazy. But if he has time to get his ass up and clean the mess he made but doesn’t, well that’s lazy.
If your the only one in the relationship doing all the cleaning and cooking, I would get my ass up and leave. I understand if someone is a primary cooker/ cleaner, but you need to help each other out instead of one doing all the effort.21 Reply
I would not be a very happy wife if I'd spent the most part of my day cleaning and looking after the kids only to have my husband come home and make a mess.
I am his wife not his servant.13 Reply- +1 y
Oh, so what is he then? I mean he works all day and provides for you so why is it that you get to treat him like a pay check? It goes both ways.

@hellionthesagereborn well that's a massive assumption, no it's the simple things like wiping the mirror clean if he gets toothpaste on it or if he misses the toilet clean it up. We were in the position of me being the only one in a stable job he took care of the house, kids and meals. Just because he wasn't working it didn't mean that he had to clean up after me and vice versa.
It's called having respect.

How is him working and then giving everything he has to his family him being lazy but her refusing to give anything in return her not being lazy? Its really frustrating that men have to make so many sacrifices for women yet women refuse to even acknowledge them and then turn around and demand more. Men work more then women do, why do we not call women lazy and spoiled children? Seems hypocritical.

@hellionthesagereborn
You presuppose a lot of things. The asker did not write ANY details on this. The entire questions is only "Are men who have their house wives clean all their messes considered lazy?"
Who says the man is giving everything he has?
Who says the woman is refusing to give anything in return?
Who says the man isn't being acknowledged?
Who says the woman is demanding more?
Men work outside the home at only slightly higher rates than men now. Actually most women work, and regardless of whether there are children present or not, when you add all housework, picking up groceries, etc., women work MORE hours per week. This is well-documented.

What I said was in response to a person (and don't forget, she is a child/teenager, not somebody's wife who is complaining about her husband) describing a scenario where a man does not clean up after himself at home, in ANY way. Examples? Maybe he changes his clothes and just drops his dirty laundry wherever it lands on the floor. He makes himself a snack just for him, and leaves the leftover food, plates, utensils, etc. out on the table, with a pile of crumbs. He doesn't change the now-finished toilet paper roll so that the next person is left without. This kind of shit. Every adult (and many children, depending on age) should take personal responsibility and at least somewhat clean up after themselves. This has little, or nothing to do with who does the lion's share of the household stuff (cooking meals, cleaning, bill paying, maintenance, etc.) and who goes to work. Odds are, they probably both do, but even if she stays at home f/t, why should she clean after him like he's a child? I don't know why you have a problem with this or what I said. You are very biased. You always claim everything you sy is verifiable fact but it's just not true. You have your opinions and a slant at which you look at things. Just like many/most people do. I am not against men, I am for equality, I am for kindness, I am for sharing the burdens of life. You never concede on these gender issues, always taking the stance that men are the harder done-by. - +1 y
Its not an assumption, a housewife by definition has no job so if she is not cooking and cleaning then she is quite literally contributing nothing. Meanwhile the husband does work (because women will not marry a man who doesn't lets be honest here (they rarely marry a man who makes less then them) so we know he is employed and we know she is not by definition. We also know that he is paying for everything because she by definition is not.
As for men giving all he has, that's the norm, 80% of domestic spending in the US is done by women, they only account for about 35% of domestic earnings. Who's money would they then be spending? They are definitely spending theirs and men are definitely not spending theirs so that leaves only women spending their money and the mans money as well (again, this shows just how little credit we give men for everything they do and how we give to much credit to women (not saying women shouldn't get credit for what they do but currently its at the expense of men (like how motherhood is the hardest job in the world. Really? So fathers don't do anything? They don't routinely go to jobs they hate to put food on the table even working two jobs to do so then come home and spend time with their kids while exhausted? That doesn't count? Just mothers get credit? This is the world we live in).
If a woman who is not working is not cleaning the house cooking etc. then she isn't giving anything (unless she is an heiress and its her money paying for everything in which case sure, you have an argument but that is not a probable scenario).
- +1 y
As for being acknowledged, of course men are not. You just stated he sounds lazy and spoiled despite the fact that by definition the woman was not working and he was and the idea that he would then expect her to clean the house at the least is him being some kind of lazy asshole is not giving him credit. We also hear all the time about the whole "motherhood is the hardest job" while fathers are completely ignored, ignore that he is paying for everything (again, statistical data shows this to be the case) yet no one wants to acknowledge that aspect of things, the fact that statistics show that men work as much as women and technically slightly more yet all we hear about is how hard women have it because they work harder then those lazy men. This is non stop in society and this question pretty much shows it as well, so yes we do not acknowledge contributions from men at all and even when we point that out its dismissed outright.
So yeah, its really annoying to hear about a claim being made that a man who works and provides for his family is some how lazy and that his housewife who by definition doesn't work (again literal definition of a housewife (otherwise she would just be a wife)) is some how not obligated to clean up the home. Its incredibly unfair and insulting and its the most normal and common mentality our society and women have. To say that I find it degrading and sexist is an understatement.

03 ReplyI mean, not really. If they work long hours, and have a stressful job, then no. They're providing for their family, and if I was a house wife, I'd want my husband to have a clean house, haha.
But that doesn't mean he should just be a slob, and make messes just because he doesn't want to pick up after himself.132 Reply- +1 y

Don't ask for more, because if they don't want to give of their own volition then they just aren't compatible with your needs.
10 Reply690 opinions shared on Relationships topic. no, I'm literally paying all the bills, etc. I'm working 40+ hours a week, she doesn't work at all, if anything she could come off as a leech. I'm sure she could spend an hour a day cleaning if we were in that scenario. Kinda hate traditional roles though, really only makes sense if you have children.

+1 yI don’t mess in my girlfriend s domain because she won’t let me. However, when the toilet backs up and I have to dig up the entire septic system with the backhoe to fix it, I do make a mess outside. But, I have to clean that up. She doesn’t mind cleaning the toilet by the way as long as it flushes correctly. She will hand it to me if leave an excessive messy toilet though. Lazy? Yeah, if they are inconsiderate pigs.

+1 yNo. The housewife is the lazy one. She only does about 7 hours of work per week with no kids, or 12 hours per week if they do have kids. That would still be way less than the guy working full time to support them.
Anyone that thinks a housewife is hard work is a complete LIAR. It is very easy, even with kids and is a lot less work that working full time.00 ReplyWait so we're pre-supposing a house wife, meaning her "career" is to stay at home all day. Let's examine the definition.
"1. a married woman whose main occupation is caring for her family, managing household affairs, and doing housework."
Um, yes. I don't ever plan on marrying a woman whose aspiration is to stay at home, but if I did then I expect her to do her job.11 Reply4.3K opinions shared on Relationships topic. No, it is not that they are lazy. May their work life is such that they maybe working for almost 18 hours a day and so it would be unfair to expect them to come home and then help in the household work also.

+1 yIf he’s home and not doing anything, then yes. Certain things like laundry, maybe not, but if you spill something, wipe it up. If you use a dish, at least put it in the sink. There’s no need to make her job harder.

but I am single so wouldn't really know much about have a house spouse to clean for/with me.10 ReplyI mean house wife is a job of sorts. A house wife doesn't work so she can take care of her family and home better. So if partner 1 works, and the other one works but at home I would not say partner 1 is lazy.
00 ReplyNo? Why would he have to work, clean, and kiss her feet too?
Seriously depends on the relationship.
Could EASILY turn the tables and say any woman who can't clean or cook for her man is even lazier.01 ReplyMy brother works about 14-16h a day so it makes sense why his wife cleans plus she doesn't work so its really fair all around. She tries to be of some use but a guy should be able to clean up to some degree like the dishes or make his bed

If he’s out working and paying all the bills, she can look after the house. If they put in equal work, then it’s totally reasonable to except equal contributions around the house.20 Reply
Anonymous(36-45)+1 yIf she doesn't have a job, and he's the sole breadwinner, then her job is to clean up behind him. He's at work for 8-12 hours and asleep for 8 more. That leaves 4-8 hours of occasional work for her, cleaning up what little he leaves behind.
If she won't cook and won't clean up behind her husband, she's not a housewife and either needs to get a job or hit the road.00 ReplyIf, by "housewife", you mean a wife with no other work than housekeeping, then no. It is her role in the relationship.
